Issues: Immigration
I believe that the current situation at our southern border represents one of the most urgent threats to our national effort to provide for the protection of our citizens. This is not "just a local issue" this is an international refugee problem, and immediate actions must be taken to alleviate this crisis.

Sullivan: It is imperative for our nation to have secure borders
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman John Sullivan released the following statement regarding the immigration legislation the Senate passed today:
“The Senate legislation could allow for over 100 million people to immigrate to our country legally over the next 20 years. This influx of people, largely unskilled immigrants, could cost the government at least $30 billion, which would be the largest expansion of the welfare state in 35 years.
“We owe it to the American people to secure our borders first and enforce the laws of our country.”

In response to his recent trip to America’s southern border, Congressman John Sullivan (R-OK) introduced H.R. 4079, the Secure our Nation’s Interior Act of 2005. Earlier this month, Congressman Sullivan visited the southern border in Douglas and Nogales, Arizona to examine first-hand America’s southern border crisis. Though the Congressman has long worked to combat deficiencies in interior enforcement, he was nevertheless shocked by its neglected condition and the ease with which illegal aliens can permanently settle in our nation.

• The bill provides $19.4 billion for border protection, immigration enforcement, and related activities, an increase of $1.9 billion. The bill also requires DHS to submit a comprehensive immigration enforcement strategy that reduces the number of undocumented aliens by 10 percent per year.
