You Can't Stay on the Fence About Immigration

YOU CAN'T STAY ON THE FENCE ABOUT IMMIGRATION

The bitter battle over the immigration bill has become a legislative minefield in this election year, though it's still unclear whether November will see any heavy political fallout as a result.

To put it mildly, this issue is a thorny wilderness, festering intra-party divisions and brewing voter backlashes. It could inflict additional wounds on George W. Bush's battle-scarred presidency, shrink the GOP's congressional Republican majority and, possibly, hurt some vulnerable Democrats.

Let's slice up some of these pitfalls.

Stand Up For America !

"We have room for but one flag, the American flag...
We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...
And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

""One lawyer said his clients were only trying to make a living.""

uh huh......the same holds true for methamphetamine manufacturers, and 80% of it comes from either mexico, or illegal immigrants from mexico.

Illegal immigrants....just maufacturing the deadly drugs Americans are unwilling to manufacture.......

"Yes - but take note - Sensenbrenner - a man who I had learned to like is now saying that Congressman Pence's idea of sending all 12 million or so Illegal Aliens out of the U.S. for a day or so to get a GREEN CARD in their country and return to the U.S. and become 'citizens to be' is not a bad idea and needs to be discussed.

Tom Tancredo has had a stroke over this and has been hammering on Pence for nearly a week.

We have problems folks and Sensenbrenner needs a good 'talking to' and Congressman Pence needs to be told to SIT DOWN AND SHUT UP."

I've been a little worried about Sensennbrenner and the 'no path to citizenship' folks as regards the 12 plus million already here. I do not think that Sensennbrenner and Tancredo are on the same page at all. First and frankly, I don't believe that the illegals give a hoot about citizenship as long as they are not considered felons and are allowed to stay. The status quo has been working in their favor and in their minds, this is their country anyway. As far as the 'no path to citizenship', my issue is, while it may not grant citizenship, the illegals are going to be allowed to stay legally, as 'green carders'. I think they will all be incorported into the current green card program and the current green card program will be expanded to include many of the benefits of the current S 2611 Bill, including 'amnesty' for the employers, and anything else the libs can add. The ONLY thing that will be excluded, for the time being, are the words 'path to citizenship', because, like Pence said, during their green card time, they will NOT be prevented from applying for naturalization if citizenship is what they want.

So, those who are interchanging 'no path to citizenship' and 'no amnesty' with 'attrition', need to be aware that being opposed does not necessarily mean that the end result will be for current immigration laws to remain and be enforced causing attrition/self deportation.

If what I've said makes sense, I'm not sure we are all speaking with the same voice to our D.C. leadership, are we?

(((((((((((((((All Right!))))))))))))))

I like to know where the Bragg boys and girls are, case I ever need one...ya' know what I mean?

I know Bragg folks have got Old Glory pumping through their arteries, veins, and hearts...and that's the folks I like best..not the yellow-bellied, lily-livered, GQ diletantes who are going to make quite a fashing statement in their little mao jackets one of these days if they don't get their fingers out of ....their eyes.

I wasn't aware that you had served and so let me take this moment to thank you for your service that, in turn, provides me, every day, with the freedoms I so enjoy and far too often take for granted. A debt of gratitude to you and your friend, Andy.

Due to my woeful understanding of the "conference committee" process to include the selection part of it I have been searching the Internet for info on this. My searching capabilities may be suspect but I have been able to find little on this even at .gov web sites. While not true for standing committees or committees in general I find interesting there is not much on the "conference committees" even as important as this is. This morning I was fortunate and found a research paper from MSU that was written in 2002. It gives great background on how and why. I assume this research to be accurate and I take it to be such.

Interesting to me is the power that Hastert, Speaker of the House, has in this whole process. Frist and the Senate is bound by unanimous consent on selection and Hastert is not. As a matter of fact, Hastert can pick whoever he wants for committee. As a rule that doesn't happen but he can. He is not bound to pick any judiciary committee or subcommittee members.

Some of the info in this paper may not be of interest but overall the background info it provides is great information on the selection of and the committee process itself.

I agree JD. I also suggest we need more troops on the border NOW. Until border patrol can catch up.

That is the thing. We need clear definitions. You wouldn't think we'd need to define "is" but apparently we do!
