"Remember the human shield guy with the tear tattoed on his cheek?"

Or like the drops of SOMTHIN Mick Ronson had painted on his chin and cheek during the Ziggy Stardust tour?

Put a top had on this Murtha guy, and redden his nose just a little bit, And this bag of puss would be the spitting image of W.C. Fields.

I'm sorry, I got that one kinda backwards, having heard half of the story on the radio before they "suddenly" stopped talking about it. I hate when the leading AM station in town does this -- it just pushes people to their print competitor for the full story.

According to this story, the beat cop did what (IMO) she should have done, and the police chief apologized to the (latino) community for the officer's doing of her job with such fine attention to detail. The law enforcement folks here don't seem to care about your residency status if you're a crime victim, and I suppose I can see their point.

Mecklenburg District Attorney Peter Gilchrist said it's sometimes necessary to overlook a victim's residency status in order to gain a conviction.

(i.e. "when it's conveeenient.")

After all, the ability of the USCP shift supervisor to overlook certain details surrounding Patrick Kennedy's late-night collision certainly helped Patrick's situation, didn't it? And he is seeking treatment now, so perhaps that was a favorable outcome for all concerned, although those of us who expect "law enforcement" to actually "enforce the law" feel less than satisfied with it.

Predictably, the Charlotte Disturber advocates the don't ask / don't tell policy (for crime victims, yeah, that's the ticket). Public opinion seems to be split along the usual political lines.

So there ya go... still sucks.
