Authorities in Orange County, Fla., arrested a 44-year-old woman who was apparently angry at a sheriff's helicopter flying over her house and allegedly shot fireworks at the aircraft in an effort to get it to move, according to police.

Sheriff's deputies were in an Orange County neighborhood near 36th Street searching for a car theft suspect late Thursday when they called for help from a sheriff's helicopter.

As the helicopter flew in the area, homeowner Emarjorie Thompson allegedly ran out of her house with a bottle rocket launcher, investigators said. Police said Thompson then shot bottle rockets at the aircraft.

In "No-Longer-a-Nation-of-Laws" America of 2006, anything that is an inconvenience for "Law Enforcement" is illegal.

"What's a bottle rocket launcher? A Bottle?"

Yes, that's exactly what it is. As a result of this incident the State of Florida is considering passing a law requiring background checks on any person attempting to purchase a bottle rocket launcher, Also, any bottle rocket launcher sold must come packaged in a protective brown paper "trigger lock".

Wouldn't that be a bottle? She should have just held them in her hand, that's the way I always launch the little ones. Of course I don't point them at police helicopters either, how stupid can you be? Next thing you know, she'll go to LAX and point them at commercial planes.

If a chopper was flying so low that it was "endangered" by a bottle rocket, it was too damned low to start with.

A bottle rocket could do some damage to the Sheriff's Department helicopters that are used. The cockpit of those are not entirely enclosed and if the rocket went into the cockpit and exploded in the face of the operator it could be a bad scenario. The Sky Knights that are used by the LA Sheriff's Department fly small helicopters that have a pilot and a spotter in them and are not the large helicopters that come to mind.

Shoot, now I've a diagram of an aimable bank of pipes dancing around in my head. Not for the assinigned purpose of shooting at helicopters of course, but it would be neat for the fourth of july, shooting up "strings" of bottle rockets.

I've heard for multiple firings the bottle rockets are placed around the mouth of the pipe with their sticks in the pipe and a propane torch is held to the fuses as the pipe is rotated as fast as the fuses can be ignited.............................................. at least that's what I heard.

....allegedly ran out of her house with a bottle rocket launcher...

"bottle rocket launcher"?

A "bottle rocket launcher" is - - - - - a bottle!

Sounds like she emptied the contents of a bottle, (or several) down her gullet, set one of the "dead soldiers" up in the yard, and let fly... (Note: the aforementioned "prep work" may explain her later behavior...)

I can imagine many people doing similar stupid things in a moment of frustration.

I'm guessing too that she lives in a part of town where police helicopters looking for criminals is a nightly occurrence.

You should try an empty, uncapped bottle launcher sometime. They work much better.

shooting a bear with a bb gun.

LOL! Sounds like something from a show called "Jackass Stunts Gone Terribly Wrong".

My buddy used to joke about shooting a grizzly bear at the end of the summer feeding season (when they're nice and fat) with a high velocity, highly frangible varmint round, and blowing a popcorn bowl sized wad of fat out of his belly.

One thing's for sure after you did that. He'd make up the lost calories with from the shooter's bone marrow.
