It's the beginning of the Memorial Day weekend. We've had our silliness thread to start things off now, how about this:

Who do you think had the best cameo performance in any movie or TV show? You know, someone who had a bit part but stole the show for you.

"Howard Jarvis in Airplane."

And he's probably STILL sitting in that cab.

That reminds me - John Astin's small part in Night Court was always good.

Oh shoot, you took my Marcel line. When you have a silent movie and the only one who talks is a world famous mime. You have a classic.

Suzanne Pleshette's cameo on the last episode of the "Newhart" show, when she and Bob wake up--as though they were still on the previous "Bob Newhart Show"--and Bob says he just dreamed the whole New England thing.

How about Barbara Billingsley and her "Excuse me stewardess, but I speak Jive..." bit. The movie is full of cameos.

The best...ever....SHIRLEY MCLAINE in DEFENDING YOUR LIFE in the HALL OF PAST LIVES. Just soda-spitting hilarious when she came on the screen.

I think I'd have to say when Sean Connery stole the show from Kevin Costner in the Sheriff of Nottingham. .... And the bad guy was ssooo much better than Kevin in that film

...truth is that Alec Baldwin's cameo in "Glegarry Glen Ross" was outstanding

Agreed. One of the best scenes ever. My favorite scene in movie history was the confrontation between Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper in True romance.

The Princess Bride scene you mentioned is also an all-time fave. (The paper cut line, the MLT...). Then again the whole movie is absolutely brilliant -- start to finish.

I really wish Rob Reiner would've stuck to movies.

John Wayne in "The Greatest Story Ever Told' as the Roman centurian standing at the foot of the cross and proclaiming, "Truly, this was the Son of God!"

I saw GlenGarry, Glenn Ross in it's recent revival with Alan Alda, Liev Schreiber, Gordon Clapp, Tom Wopat, Jeffrey Tambor (sorry, I can't recall the other two) it was GREAT!!! Alda (another polical pinhead) was absolutely great. I didn't like Lemmon in the flick, he was absolutely annoying in his "how many nervous tic's can I fit in this scene"
