Following is National Review's list of its top 50 conservative rock songs, with the magazine's explanations of its choices.
1. "Won't Get Fooled Again," by The Who.
The conservative movement is full of disillusioned revolutionaries; this could be their theme song, an oath that swears off naive idealism once and for all. "There's nothing in the streets / Looks any different to me / And the slogans are replaced, bythebye. . . . Meet the new boss / Same as the old boss." The instantly recognizable synthesizer intro, Pete Townshend's ringing guitar, Keith Moon's pounding drums, and Roger Daltrey's wailing vocals make this one of the most explosive rock anthems ever recorded the best number by a big band, and a classic for conservatives.
2. "Taxman," by The Beatles.
A George Harrison masterpiece with a famous guitar riff (which was actually played by Paul McCartney): "If you drive a car, I'll tax the street / If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat / If you get too cold, I'll tax the heat / If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet." The song closes with a humorous jab at death taxes: "Now my advice for those who die / Declare the pennies on your eyes."

Good point about"House"by the Animals.
Let me nominate The Trip by Donovan with that great line-
"Girl you drank a lot of'drink me'but you ain't in Wonderland
I'd like to be there to greet you, girl, when your tripping ship touches land"
Conservative rap songs?
Us by Ice Cube.Hands down.
Not hardly conservative?Its My Life?
What about the Horatio Algerian line about"though I'm dressed in these rags,I'll wear sable someday"?
But the best line from that song is"There are women of misfortune, who just want to mother orphans"
Jim Morrison, Roadhouse Blues:-)
I'm only reading this thread for kicks, but the idea of conservative rap absolutely impels me to mention My Mind is Playing Tricks on Me by one of the most notoriously offensive groups ever, the Geto Boys. But man . . . that track doesn't have any obscenities or anything like that in it, and it'll make your blood run cold!
I vote for it!
I see "Twentieth Century Man" on there...great song, though amazingly, I've never heard the original Kinks version of it. The only version I ever heard was an awesome ass-kicking live version by the Beat Farmers (a San Diego band most famous for "Happy Boy") on their "Loud and Plowed and...Live!" album.

Disappointed to see "Get Off This" by Cracker not on the list:
Petty little Ayatollahs
Come around to judge and stone ya
All we're trying to do is make a fortune
Yeah, we ain't got no government loans
And no one sends a check from home
But get this: we're just doin' what we wanna.
Has anyone mentioned Disney Girls by The Beachboys?
A great evocation of a time and mood in America that is forever gone.
IMO, Behind Closed Doors, by Charlie Rich, is a very nice Conservative song.
Did you know that one-time Beat Farmer's guitarist Buddy Blue died a few weeks ago.
The Rainmakers wrote Government Cheese. I have never heard of them, I don't think lol
"Not My Slave" by Oingo Boingo... or, how to convert a feminist.
You're missing the whole point-- you're not my little pet
Don't throw away your life-- The game's not over yet
I do not own your soul--don't want you in a cage
I only want your heart to find that special place
You're mine now But you're not my sister
You're mine now But you're not my slave
You're mine But you're not my child
You're mine now But you're not my slave
With sand in my heart and clouds in my head
I thought about us both and the lives we've led.
From pages in a book and pictures on a screen
We shape ourselves like clay from someone else's dream.
One second you are cast just like stones at my feet
But I am not a king please don't worship me.
With everyone around telling us what to do
With deafening sound whisper I love you.
Ah, man, I'm sorry to hear that. I knew that Country Dick Montana died (onstage I believe) many years ago and that's what broke up the band, but I hadn't heard about Buddy Blue.
Hubba hubba hubba hubba hubba...

Oh well, o well I feel so good today
Just touched down on an international runway
Jet-propelled back home from over seas to the USA.
Did I miss the skyscrapers, Did I miss the long freeways?
From the coast of California to the shores of the Delaware Bay?
You can bet your life I did till I got back to the USA.
(etc.)
Would the Doors' "Back Door Man" make the liberal top 40 if they altered the intended meaning?
Agreed. The crunching guitar, the nimble bassline, the galloping drums and that killer scream by Daltrey. Rock just doesn't get any better. They picked the right one for number one.
I am surely one of the few freepers who likes break beat/techno/big beat music.
The Chemical Brothers' song Galvanize is fantastic.
It is a great motivator and is about working hard even when those around you think differently.
