We're all Jesus' children: 'Da Vinci Code' got its genealogy wrong.
Los Angeles Times ^ | 5/19/2006 | Steve Olson

Posted on 05/25/2006 10:45:12 AM PDT by Mike Bates

DOES JESUS have a secret line of descendants who are living today? It's an oddly appealing idea. We tend to think of ancestry in terms of bloodlines, in which some individuals are descended from famous ancestors and others are not. And the idea echoes deeper religious themes of individuals and groups favored by God.

But this is one idea in "The Da Vinci Code," which opens today in theaters worldwide, that just won't wash. Jesus couldn't have just a few descendants living today. If anyone alive today is descended from Jesus, then so are most of the people on the planet.

This absurd-sounding statement is an inevitable consequence of the workings of ancestry. People may have just a few descendants in the two or three generations after they lived, but after that the number of descendants explodes. For a population to remain the same size, every adult has to have an average of two children who grow to adulthood and have children. So the number of descendants for the average person grows exponentially — two children, four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and so on. In just 10 generations — roughly 250 years — an average person can have more than 1,000 descendants.

SNIP

In real genealogies, a person's descendants either peter out within a few generations or begin to grow exponentially. That's why people who came to America on the Mayflower now have thousands of descendants. People who lived just a few centuries earlier have many millions of descendants.

"Frankly, that's not your concern, IMO. Your job is to carry out the great commission, not to be the heresy police."

Opposing error is an implicit part of the great commission. Based on the evidence of his writings, how much of Paul's time did he spend opposing error? Apparently, quite a bit.

You refer to her human soul ... and in that I agree completely regarding awaiting the resurrection. I was r3eferring to her body, while she was alive, having stem cells from Jesus still in her body. [Hey, that brings to mind an idea for a story, a fictional story.]

thus his DNA was not Mary or Joseph derived

It would have to be from Mary at least. I always thought of Jesus 'body' as human but his 'soul' divine.

Others have said that before the movie they believed it was just fiction but afterward said that Jesus probably did marry and has descendants.

That Christendom hasn't collapsed a week after the release is a pretty weak argument.

Take a look at what is happening in Europe without God in the lives of the nations and you can have a pretty good idea where "Christendom" may be heading. Junk like this piece of "fiction" don't serve as a demolition device. They chip away at the foundation until one day, a stunned people are picking through the debris wondering what happened.

But hey, you're in good company. The leaders of the EU who insisted that 1500 years of Christian influence not be mentioned in the preamble of the EU Constitution would completely agree with you. They are also the ones now raising the alarum of serious demographic troubles.

It's not an argument. It's an observation.

While EU certainly has had a decline in observation of religion (not counting the Islamic faith, which is growing), those nations formerly under Soviet control had an increase in attendance. oh, and I've neither seen the movie or read the book.

"Jesus was conceived prior to being implanted into Mary's womb, thus his DNA was not Mary or Joseph derived."

I disagree. Mary was not the “surrogate” mother of Jesus. She was really and truly His mother.

First, I found this link, which explains the technical/biological side. The best tech explanation I’ve seen.
Q & A: Did Jesus have Mary's DNA? http://www.bibleanswerstand.org/QA_DNA.htm

CHURCH FATHERS A Sectional Confession of the Faith (St_ Gregory Thaumaturgus)
http://www.newadvent.org/Fathers/0605.htm
“Further, we acknowledge that the Son of God was made a Son of man, having taken to Himself the flesh from the Virgin Mary, not in name, but in reality…”

The Summa Theologica of St. Thomas Aquinas
http://www.newadvent.org/summa/403504.htm
“…she [Mary] begot of her flesh the Word of God made flesh…”

“Therefore He who is "above all things, God blessed for ever," is truly born of the Blessed Virgin as of His Mother.”

“…she is the mother, according to His human nature, of the Person who has both the divine and the human nature.”

CHURCH FATHERS On the Flesh of Christ (Tertullian)
http://www.newadvent.org/Fathers/0315.htm
“If it was not as her son, but only as a stranger that Mary carried Jesus in her womb, how is it she says, "Blessed is the fruit of thy womb?”

Father William Saunders
https://www.ewtn.com/faith/teachings/maryc1.htm
“Mary conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Lk 1:26-38 and Mt 1:18-25) Through her, Jesus Christ--second person of the Holy Trinity--entered this world, taking on human flesh and a human soul. Jesus is true God and true man. In His person are united both a divine nature and a human nature.

the One whom she conceived as man by the Holy Spirit, who truly became her Son according to the flesh, was none other than the Father's eternal Son, the second person of the Holy Trinity. (CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH, No. 495). Council of Ephesus (431)

Flesh of Her Flesh Mary Full of Grace
http://www.boston-catholic-journal.com/flesh_of_her_flesh_mary_full_of_grace.htm
“Grace is a participation in the life of God" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, §1997) – and Mary, the Angel Gabriel declares – is filled with it! Filled with the life of God, participating in the life of God as no other human being in history. She is full of grace, participates consummately in the life of God – even before she bore His Son.
Why?
Because she was to bear His Son. It was from Mary that Jesus took His Sacred Humanity. It was from Mary that He took His flesh, becoming like unto us in every way but sin.
How much closer can a human being be to God ... than to have given Him His very flesh ... enabling, yes, enabling God to become Man!
Jesus flesh was not different from Mary's – it was Mary's! ... just as his Divinity was not different from God's, but was, is, God's.

Please lets not digress ya all know the MS does not adhere to the LDS understanding! Let save the Godhead vs Trinity for another thead. Let just look how the difinitions of each play a roll in the conception to the Only Begotten?

As LDS you all know we look at the Trinity/Godhead

LDS calls it the Godhead, LDS takes the words literal meaning Father, Son and Holy Ghost, 3 Seperate Personages!

The Mainstream thinks of the Trinity to mean 3 in 1, the MS embraces the Nicene Creed concept of Three in One substance!

***

The arguememt over the year's has been who Father Jesus?

God of the Highest or the Holy Ghost?

Luke 1
30 And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

***

The LDS position is the Heavenly Father the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

When the Holy Ghost is upon one they are purified to receive the Word of God or Revelation Not the child of God!

Meaning in this event Mary vessle was PURIFIED taken to an Elevated realm to receive the Heavenly Father Only begotten Son!

Before you get excited I want to remind you Trinity folks that you do not seperate the Trinity you view it is THREE in ONE substance!

So with your reasoning you can not seperate the Trinity because it is all ONE SUBSTANCE!

With this reasoning how is this posible to serperate the Holy Ghost from the Trinity?

“Grace is a participation in the life of God" (Catechism of the Catholic Church, §1997)

This quote doesn't seem to align up with what the Word tells us.
The Bible shows that it is a GIFT of God; NOT a 'participation in the life of God'.

NIV Luke 2:39-40
 39.  When Joseph and Mary had done everything required by the Law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee to their own town of Nazareth.
 40.  And the child grew and became strong; he was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.

NIV John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only,  who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

NIV John 1:16-17
 16.  From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.
 17.  For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

NIV Acts 4:33
With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all.

NIV Acts 6:8
Now Stephen, a man full of God's grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people.

NIV Acts 11:22-24
 22.  News of this reached the ears of the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.
 23.  When he arrived and saw the evidence of the grace of God, he was glad and encouraged them all to remain true to the Lord with all their hearts.
 24.  He was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.

NIV Acts 13:43
 43.  When the congregation was dismissed, many of the Jews and devout verts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who talked with them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.

NIV Acts 14:3
So Paul and Barnabas spent considerable time there, speaking boldly for the Lord, who confirmed the message of his grace by enabling them to do miraculous signs and wonders.

NIV Acts 14:26
From Attalia they sailed back to Antioch, where they had been committed to the grace of God for the work they had now completed.

NIV Acts 15:10-11
 10.  Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of the disciples a yoke that neither we nor our fathers have been able to bear?
 11.  No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are."

NIV Acts 15:39-40
 39.  They had such a sharp disagreement that they parted company. Barnabas took Mark and sailed for Cyprus,
 40.  but Paul chose Silas and left, commended by the brothers to the grace of the Lord.

NIV Acts 18:27
When Apollos wanted to go to Achaia, the brothers encouraged him and wrote to the disciples there to welcome him. On arriving, he was a great help to those who by grace had believed.

NIV Acts 20:24
However, I consider my life worth nothing to me, if only I may finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me--the task of testifying to the gospel of God's grace.

NIV Acts 20:32
"Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

NIV Romans 1:5
Through him and for his name's sake, we received grace and apostleship to call people from among all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith.

NIV Romans 3:20-24
 20.  Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.
 21.  But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify.
 22.  This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,
 23.  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
 24.  and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

NIV Romans 4:16
Therefore, the promise comes by faith, so that it may be by grace and may be guaranteed to all Abraham's offspring--not only to those who are of the law but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham. He is the father of us all.

NIV Romans 5:1-2
 1.  Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
 2.  through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we  rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.

NIV Romans 5:15
But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!

NIV Romans 5:17
For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.

NIV Romans 5:9-21
  9.  Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!
 10.  For if, when we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!
 11.  Not only is this so, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
 12.  Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned--
 13.  for before the law was given, sin was in the world. But sin is not taken into account when there is no law.
 14.  Nevertheless, death reigned from the time of Adam to the time of Moses, even over those who did not sin by breaking a command, as did Adam, who was a pattern of the one to come.
 15.  But the gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God's grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!
 16.  Again, the gift of God is not like the result of the one man's sin: The judgment followed one sin and brought condemnation, but the gift followed many trespasses and brought justification.
 17.  For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God's abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ.
 18.  Consequently, just as the result of one trespass was condemnation for all men, so also the result of one act of righteousness was justification that brings life for all men.
 19.  For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.
 20.  The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more,
 21.  so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

NIV Romans 6:1
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase?

NIV Romans 6:14-15
14.   For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace.
15.  What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!

NIV Romans 11:5-6
 5.  So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace.
 6.  And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.

NIV Romans 12:3
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you.

NIV Romans 12:6
We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his  faith.

NIV Romans 15:14-16
 14.  I myself am convinced, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, complete in knowledge and competent to instruct one another.
 15.  I have written you quite boldly on some points, as if to remind you of them again, because of the grace God gave me
 16.  to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles with the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

NIV 1 Corinthians 3:10
By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds.

NIV 1 Corinthians 15:10
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them--yet not I, but the grace of God that was with me.

NIV 2 Corinthians 1:12-14
 12.  Now this is our boast: Our conscience testifies that we have conducted ourselves in the world, and especially in our relations with you, in the holiness and sincerity that are from God. We have done so not according to worldly wisdom but according to God's grace.
 13.  For we do not write you anything you cannot read or understand. And I hope that,
 14.  as you have understood us in part, you will come to understand fully that you can boast of us just as we will boast of you in the day of the Lord Jesus.

NIV 2 Corinthians 4:15
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.

NIV 2 Corinthians 6:1
As God's fellow workers we urge you not to receive God's grace in vain.

NIV 2 Corinthians 8:1
And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches.

NIV 2 Corinthians 8:6-9
 6.  So we urged Titus, since he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also to completion this act of grace on your part.
 7.  But just as you excel in everything--in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us --see that you also excel in this grace of giving.
 8.  I am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others.
 9.  For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

NIV 2 Corinthians 9:8
And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

NIV 2 Corinthians 9:14-15
 14.  And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you.
 15.  Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!

NIV 2 Corinthians 12:8-9
 8.  Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.
 9.  But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

NIV Galatians 1:6-7
 6.  I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel--
 7.  which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ.

NIV Galatians 1:15-17
 15.  But when God, who set me apart from birth  and called me by his grace, was pleased
 16.  to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not consult any man,
 17.  nor did I go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went immediately into Arabia and later returned to Damascus.

NIV Galatians 2:9
James, Peter  and John, those reputed to be pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship when they recognized the grace given to me. They agreed that we should go to the Gentiles, and they to the Jews.

NIV Galatians 2:21
I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!"

NIV Galatians 3:18
For if the inheritance depends on the law, then it no longer depends on a promise; but God in his grace gave it to Abraham through a promise.

NIV Galatians 5:4
You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.

NIV Ephesians 1:3-8
 3.  Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.
 4.  For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love
 5.  he  predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will--
 6.  to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.
 7.  In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace
 8.  that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.

NIV Ephesians 2:4-9
 4.  But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy,
 5.  made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved.
 6.  And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus,
 7.  in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.
 8.  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--
 9.  not by works, so that no one can boast.

NIV Ephesians 3:2-3
 2.  Surely you have heard about the administration of God's grace that was given to me for you,
 3.  that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly.

NIV Ephesians 3:7-9
 7.  I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power.
 8.  Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,
 9.  and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things.

NIV Ephesians 4:7
But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it.

NIV Philippians 1:7
It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart; for whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all of you share in God's grace with me.

NIV Colossians 1:3-6
 3.  We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,
 4.  because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all the saints--
 5.  the faith and love that spring from the hope that is stored up for you in heaven and that you have already heard about in the word of truth, the gospel
 6.  that has come to you. All over the world this gospel is bearing fruit and growing, just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and understood God's grace in all its truth.

NIV Colossians 4:6
Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

NIV 2 Thessalonians 1:12
We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

NIV 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
 16.  May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope,
 17.  encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

NIV 1 Timothy 1:14
The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.

NIV 2 Timothy 1:8-10
 8.  So do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord, or ashamed of me his prisoner. But join with me in suffering for the gospel, by the power of God,
 9.  who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time,

Testimony of Three Witnesses
Be it known unto all nations, kindreds, tongues, and people, unto whom this work shall come: That we, through the grace of God the Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, have seen the plates which contain this record, which is a record of the people of Nephi, and also of the Lamanites, their brethren, and also of the people of Jared, who came from the tower of which hath been spoken. And we also know that they have been translated by the gift and power of God, for his voice hath declared it unto us; wherefore we know of a surety that the work is true. And we also testify that we have seen the engravings which are upon the plates; and they have been shown unto us by the power of God, and not of man. And we declare with words of soberness, that an angel of God came down from heaven, and he brought and laid before our eyes, that we beheld and saw the plates, and the engravings thereon; and we know that it is by the grace of God the Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, that we beheld and bear record that these things are true. And it is marvelous in our eyes. Nevertheless, the voice of the Lord commanded us that we should bear record of it; wherefore, to be obedient unto the commandments of God, we bear testimony of these things. And we know that if we are faithful in Christ, we shall rid our garments of the blood of all men, and be found spotless before the judgment-seat of Christ, and shall dwell with him eternally in the heavens. And the honor be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, which is one God. Amen.

D&C 20: 4
4 And this according to the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to whom be all glory, both now and forever. Amen.

D&C 20: 30
30 And we know that justification through the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is just and true;

D&C 20: 31
31 And we know also, that sanctification through the grace of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is just and true, to all those who love and serve God with all their mights, minds, and strength.

D&C 21: 1
1 BEHOLD, there shall be a record kept among you; and in it thou shalt be called a seer, a translator, a prophet, an apostle of Jesus Christ, an elder of the church through the will of God the Father, and the grace of your Lord Jesus Christ,

D&C 88: 133
133 Art thou a brother or brethren? I salute you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, in token or remembrance of the everlasting covenant, in which covenant I receive you to fellowship, in a determination that is fixed, immovable, and unchangeable, to be your friend and brother through the grace of God in the bonds of love, to walk in all the commandments of God blameless, in thanksgiving, forever and ever. Amen.

D&C 138: 14
14 All these had departed the mortal life, firm in the hope of a glorious resurrection, through the grace of God the Father and his Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ.

52 And he also said unto him: If thou wilt turn unto me, and hearken unto my voice, and believe, and repent of all thy transgressions, and be baptized, even in water, in the name of mine Only Begotten Son, who is full of grace and truth, which is Jesus Christ, the only name which shall be given under heaven, whereby salvation shall come unto the children of men, ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, asking all things in his name, and whatsoever ye shall ask, it shall be given you.

GS Grace
Grace and truth came by Jesus Christ, John 1: 17. Through the grace of Christ, we shall be saved, Acts 15: 11 (Rom. 3: 23-24; D&C 138: 14). We have access by faith to his grace, Rom. 5: 2. The Lord dwells with him that is humble, Isa. 57: 15. Whosoever shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven, Matt. 18: 4. He that shall humble himself shall be exalted, Matt. 23: 12 (Luke 14: 11; 18: 14). Jesus humbled himself and became obedient unto death, Philip. 2: 8 (Luke 22: 42; 23: 46). GS Justification, Justify
To be pardoned from punishment for sin and declared guiltless. A person is justified by the Savior’s grace through faith in him. This faith is shown by repentance and obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel. My righteous servant shall justify many, for he shall bear their iniquities, Mosiah 14: 11 (Isa. 53: 11). Could ye say that your garments have been cleansed through Christ? Alma 5: 27. Justification through the grace of Jesus Christ is true, D&C 20: 30-31 (D&C 88: 39). By the Spirit ye are justified, Moses 6: 60.

GS Love
Deep devotion and affection. Love for God includes devotion, adoration, reverence, tenderness, mercy, forgiveness, compassion, grace, service, gratitude, kindness. The greatest example of God’s love for his children is found in the infinite atonement of Jesus Christ.

GS Marriage, Marry
Jesus taught the law of marriage, Luke 20: 27-36. Neither is the man without the woman in the Lord, 1 Cor. 11: 11. Husband and wife are heirs together of the grace of life, 1 Pet. 3: 7. Whatsoever you shall seal on earth shall be sealed in heaven, Hel. 10: 7 (Matt. 16: 19). To obtain the highest degree of the celestial kingdom, a man must enter into the new and everlasting covenant of marriage, D&C 131: 1-4. If a man marry a wife not by me, their covenant and marriage is not of force when they are dead, D&C 132: 15. If a man marry a wife by my word and by the new and everlasting covenant, and it is sealed by the Holy Spirit of Promise, it shall be of full force when they are out of the world, D&C 132: 19.

GS Plan of Redemption
He was wounded for our transgressions, Isa. 53: 5 (Mosiah 14: 5). There is none other name under heaven by which man can be saved, Acts 4: 12. As in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive, 1 Cor. 15: 22. By grace are ye saved through faith, Eph. 2: 8 (2 Ne. 25: 23). God promised eternal life before the world began, Titus 1: 2. Jesus is the author of eternal salvation, Heb. 5: 8-9. The plan of redemption was extended to the dead, 1 Pet. 3: 18-20; 4: 6 (D&C 138). GS Salvation
To be saved from both physical and spiritual death. All people will be saved from physical death by the grace of God, through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Each individual can also be saved from spiritual death as well by the grace of God, through faith in Jesus Christ. This faith is manifested in a life of obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel and service to Christ.

GS Sanctification
God hath chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit, 2 Thes. 2: 13. We are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus, Heb. 10: 10. Jesus suffered that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, Heb. 13: 12. High priests were sanctified and their garments were washed white through the blood of the Lamb, Alma 13: 10-12. Sanctification cometh to those who yield their hearts unto God, Hel. 3: 33-35. Repent that ye may be sanctified by the reception of the Holy Ghost, 3 Ne. 27: 20. Sanctification through the grace of Jesus Christ is just and true, D&C 20: 31. Jesus came to sanctify the world, D&C 76: 41. Sanctify yourselves that your minds become single to God, D&C 88: 68.

BD Election
We see that elections are not all of the same kind. Since election has to do with God’s choice of persons or groups to accomplish his purposes, some may be elected by him to one thing and some to another. Although the Lord uses certain individuals to accomplish his purposes, it does not necessarily follow that these persons will automatically receive a fulness of salvation thereby. For instance, Nebuchadnezzar and Cyrus fulfilled certain purposes in the economy of God, but they apparently did it for their own reasons and not as conscious acts of faith and righteousness. On the other hand, salvation of one’s soul comes only by personal integrity and willing obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Thus there are some elections to be desired over others. An “election of grace” spoken of in D&C 84: 98-102 and Rom. 11: 1-5 has reference to one’s situation in mortality; that is, being born at a time, at a place, and in circumstances where one will come in favorable contact with the gospel. This election took place in the premortal existence. Those who are faithful and diligent in the gospel in mortality receive an even more desirable election in this life, and become the elect of God. These receive the promise of a fulness of God’s glory in eternity (D&C 84: 33-41).

BD Grace
It is through the grace of the Lord Jesus, made possible by his atoning sacrifice, that mankind will be raised in immortality, every person receiving his body from the grave in a condition of everlasting life. It is likewise through the grace of the Lord that individuals, through faith in the atonement of Jesus Christ and repentance of their sins, receive strength and assistance to do good works that they otherwise would not be able to maintain if left to their own means. This grace is an enabling power that allows men and women to lay hold on eternal life and exaltation after they have expended their own best efforts.

BD Grace
Divine grace is needed by every soul in consequence of the fall of Adam and also because of man’s weaknesses and shortcomings. However, grace cannot suffice without total effort on the part of the recipient. Hence the explanation, “It is by grace that we are saved, after all we can do” (2 Ne. 25: 23). It is truly the grace of Jesus Christ that makes salvation possible. This principle is expressed in Jesus’ parable of the vine and the branches (John 15: 1-11). See also John 1: 12-17; Eph. 2: 8-9; Philip. 4: 13; D&C 93: 11-14.
