A name with spice
Just what is it about celebrities that compels them to saddle their babies with, shall we say, unusual names?
The latest victim: Geri Halliwell's infant daughter, whom she named Bluebell Madonna.
The 33-year-old singer, also known as Ginger Spice of the Spice Girls, told Hello! magazine she'd been inspired by seeing the spring flowers during her pregnancy.
The baby was born May 14 at London's Portland Hospital, weighing 5 pounds, 12 ounces.
''What really clinched it for me was my mother telling me that the bluebell is increasingly rare -- so it's [a] precious flower, which seems just right for my daughter,'' Halliwell was quoted as saying.
Halliwell made no mention of the baby's father in the interview.
In other odd-names news, after naming their first-born girl Moxie CrimeFighter last June, comedian Penn Jillette and wife Emily came up with something a bit more mainstream for their new son -- Zolten Penn, who was born Monday.
''Zolten is a common Hungarian name, it's my wife's maiden name and most importantly, it's the name of Dracula's dog,'' Jillette, the 51-year-old larger half of the comedy-and-magic duo Penn & Teller, said in a statement.
Zolten Penn Jillette weighed 8 pounds, 13 ounces.

Never mind the odd names. Why is it that newspapers, parents, and everyone else feel compelled to give the weight of the baby? I know it is somehow a societal custom, but I keep asking: Why? What relevant information is provided?

Deadly nightshade?
I named our spring born goat "Jolie" because she has such big lips.
My daughter, the actual goat owner, laughed loudly, but ultimately objected.
I knew a family who was named Reeher, one son was named Harry. No kidding. They were a pioneer Oregon family.
I know of two boys (one HS age and the other a middle schooler) named 'Maddox.' Kind of a strong, masculine sounding name...and Zahara I think is very pretty sounding (not like Apple or Bluebell).
he has his own movie......

Guess not- Harry Reeher is long gone- I think he was a real estate agent back in the 40- 50's in the Forest Grove, Oregon area.
I went to school with a guy named Robert Roberts.

My hubby has a friend with the last name of Hamberger. In high school, he dated a girl with the last name of Pickle!
I knew a Peter Hamburger or Hamberger.
