Former Senator and Treasury Secretary Lloyd Bentsen, a courtly Texan who as the Democrats' vice presidential nominee in 1988 famously told rival Dan Quayle he was "no Jack Kennedy," died Tuesday. He was 85.

Not exactly a 3 faked Purple hearts and out kind of guy. John Kerry is no Lloyd Bensten.
If we are going to be classy, let's include correct grammar, too.
Ironically enough, he apologized afterward to Quayle, but that part was never really reported. (I think I read that either in Quayle's book or in one conservative newspaper account. I can't really remember the source.)
The only thing I remember about this "person" is that he stayed Secy of Treasury just long enough to bail his son Lan Bentsen out of trouble during the S&L crisis, since the agency that Lan was working with to bail himself out was directly under the direction and supervision by Daddy.
He was a Major who flew 200 bombing runs in WW2.
No, not just like him. Bentsen actually was something of a war hero. And he didn't bring it up every five seconds. Even folks like Rep. Charles Rangel (Dipsh-NY) falls into that category for the same reason more than Kerry does. You have to give them credit and respect earned for that.
Have your differences with the other things.

Have you no sense of decency, sir? At long last, have you left no sense of decency? ...
May his family find peace.
However, I find it curious that a "former Senator" warrants so much media attention.
S.W.T.F.I.P.
His "I knew JFK, and you're no JFK" comment to Quayle was the height of rudeness, and I only wish Quayle had been quick enought to slap it right back at him. But he didn't see it coming because he mistakenly thought he was dealing with a gentleman. If it had been the other way around - Quayle zinging Benstsen - the press would have jumped all over Quayle.
The lettering is uneven on the side of that police car. If you're going to rip the grammar police at least use fonts and lettering properly. /s
Whoever could survive 200 bombing runs in WW2 should have moved to Las Vegas because that would have made him the luckiest man alive at the time!
No matter how much we don't like this guy, we ought never rejoice in another man's passing.
We aren't members of the death cult.
Like John Glenn: a big, solid soldier and a good man who shrank annually once he became a Senator.
Ex-Senator Bentsen was a real warrior in WWII, but he was also known as "hands-out" Lloyd, in that his hands were always out to take $$$ from folks. Back in those days it was qite common for a Senator or Congressman to take cash from anyone who offered it. We are still paying for that graft and corrupton gifted to us by folks like Sen. Bentsen. As far as I'm concerned, he sold his soul for a few bucks, and now he will finally meet up with the real "Paymaster".
I know he was a commie, but I really liked Eugene McCarthy's comment about why he should be the democrat nominee in 1960.
"I'm more liberal than Hubert Humphrey and more Catholic than John Kennedy."
