SEAFORD, Del. -- Five people in Delaware face criminal charges after clashing with members of a Topeka church protesting the weekend funeral of a Marine killed in Iraq.
Police stood between the protesters and counter-demonstrators, some of whom tossed eggs, stones and water bottles at the picketers from Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church. The church believes U.S. casualties in Iraq are God's retribution for America's support of homosexuality.
The church members were greeted by about 1,000 people Sunday outside the funeral of Marine Corp. Cory Palmer, who died earlier this month from injuries suffered in Iraq.
One of the five was charged with assault while the others were cited for criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.
Despite the trouble, police said area residents showed "good restraint." Church members plan to return to Seaford on Wednesday to picket the funeral of another Marine killed in Iraq.

All they need to do is bring signs that say
"Fred Phelps is gay and loves little boys"
A few of those and a few good chants and the Phelps crowd will be over the edge and attacking them.

The church believes U.S. casualties in Iraq are God's retribution for America's support of homosexuality. No. The group is anti-American and only pickets the funerals of our service men and women.
To: Abathar
I hear that Freepers sometimes attend these events to support the fallen soldiers and those attending the funerals.
If so, they should carry signs that say, "FRED PHELPS, GET A JOB!!!"
They have all this spare time to picket funerals. Don't any of those people work for a living?

Can't the police cite those Phelp's a-holes with "incitement to riot"?

I am surprised someone has not had a one on one discussion with them when they are coming or going, They are obviously staying in the area and I doubt the hide their idenity.

I can't believe that when they pass the plate in their "church" they can get enough money to keep showing up everywhere they do. I don't know where they get the funds from, I wonder if they are tax exempt also? Seems the IRS should take a good look at them if they are.

Pfred is in his own universe of excrement. He never ceases to stun and amaze those who haven't seen him and his 'church family' in action. At the Mathew Sheppard funeral there was this classic moment as both pro and anti-gay rights types were moving into place eying each other hostily. Then Pfred and his loons show up. There is a classic bit of video of the other protest groups standing stock still and staring at Pfred. Then before the gays rights people can say anything some reverend pipes up and says 'I don't know who they but they aren't with us.' Then there is some more silence as the two groups watch Pfred's hootenanny go into action. If Martians landed the response wouldn't have been much different. And that is what Pfred is from another planet.

I thought Phelps was banned from Funerals?
I wish we could get a group that size.
Thanks for the heads up for Seaford Del.

Sounds fair to me. The sadistic lengths these people will go to, is disturbing at times. Protesting homosexuals, at a funeral; not just a funeral, but one for a man who gave his life for them.. Can't even begin to express my anger towards these scumbags. I remember attending the funeral for my cousin who died in Afghanistan.. If anyone had tried that, I know for a fact that they wouldn't have walked away unscathed, as long as I was breathing...
..Despicable.

Much as we might be angered by these loons from Topeka, we won't accomplish anything by assaulting them.
I like the counter-protesting bikers I've heard about. Now, THEM I'd join. (I know that Phelps guy doesn't like them much. LOL)

Then why aren't they protesting over at Rumsfeld's house like everyone else against the war?
Or NAMBLA? Or any of the other sex clubs?
I'm not buying their propaganda pretending to be religious protestors.
