WASHINGTON - The Senate, nearing completion on an immigration overhaul, on Monday strongly endorsed President Bush's plan to deploy the National Guard to the U.S.-Mexico border.

By an 83-10 vote, senators approved an amendment by Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., that sets parameters for the use of 6,000 National Guardsmen in support of the Border Patrol. Troops would be excluded from "search, seizure, arrest or similar activity" and tours of duty could not exceed 21 days.

It may not yet be time for pitchforks and torches...

I believe it is.

Just because others did nothing is no excuse for our current president to also do nothing worthwhile. Look how late it is in his two term tenure and now all we get is pandering. It's too little, too late.

"Why support President Bush anymore? "

President Bush is now voting in the Senate too is he?

"The USA has been defeated by the illegal alien invasion."

Defeated?
When was that?
I got my gun ready, still don't see no armed Mexican army to fight, let alone be defeated by.

"We are no different than Mexico! "

So why are millions of Mexicans risking their lives to get here then?

"The Bush family has ruined this country!"
Oh Puleeze.
We have about the strongest economy in the G7, 4.8 GDP growth, 4.7 unemployment, strong job growth, strong productivity growth, strong industrial output, highest homeownership ever, etc.
If that is "ruining the country" you'd better try living in Germany and see how hard it is to get a job.

But hey, don't let the facts stop ya.
Talk of a hysterical rant.

I heard the other day that even if the NG is federalized that the states have to reimburse a portion of the cost. Don't remember where I heard it or what the cost was.

"Buck up and pressure your congress critters. Do something, don't whine"

Yep
Especially those congressmen that are going to the Senate/House conference on the immigration Bill.
The Republican House members must be strongly pressured to make no compromises to the weak kneed, woolly headed, confused Senate people.

But he is doing something, trying more than the others, addressing the issue instead of sweeping under the rug. If you think you're going to get everything you want, your living a pipe dream. Until we have a true conservative majority (think senate, and rinos), your all or nothing ideas won't see the light of day. Think about it. This president barely won 50%, past presidents didn't address it, and Reagan said, you're all citizens. At least he's trying to start something, which is more than you'd get from a Pres Gore or Pres Kerry. All you doom and gloomers fail to see the big picture. Bush is just the beginning of a conservative revolution, we have to keep pushing forward. Do you think the dems gave up after 10 years? No, they kept pushing for over 50+ more years. Instant gratification is only in TV shows, this is real life, and it's going to take longer than 8 years to correct the messes of the left. Take what you can and build on it. For goodness sake, don't throw in the towel, two steps forward, one step back.

What are they there for then? Show?

"and tours of duty could not exceed 21 days"

Hey Senators, why don't we just make it easy on you guys?
Let's just make it a nice round ZERO days and be done with it, shall we?
There, that's better.
This Bill is beyond ridiculous.

I'm glad to at least see troops being sent to the border. However, I have to say that it's tremendously disappointing to see so little being sent, and with so many restrictions on what they can actually do.

Bush apparently is trying to make his voter base happy while at the same time compromising with the Dems. It's a spectacular error. You're going to make someone mad no matter WHAT you do. That's a fact of life.

We have to enforce and secure our border NOW. Mr. President, forget how much it will hurt peoples' feelings and DO IT!!!!!!

God bless you Mr. President. Moments like these make me proud to be a Republican.

Not I. My liberal friends are laughing at me. Even they're pissed about the illegal immigration situation that W endorses.

We have been writing our Senators. I'm glad that mine are on board in illegal immigration law enforcement. It seems W is still a lost cause though and doesn't seem to want to follow the Constitution.

4.7 unemployment

You know I remember how much hell was raised when clintoon, changed the method of calculating unemployment. Now the Pub's gloat in using the same clintoon method. As soon as unemployment runs out you assume the person is employed and drop him off the role. Isn't that the way clintoon did it??

Hey, get real. Bush is partly to blame. You can't say he is blameless. All he had to do, and it is his responsibiity to enforce the laws, was to enforce the laws, beef up the border patrol, he didn't though he claims he did, make sure ILLEGALS were actually deported, build tent cities to house them instead of catch and release and all of us would be behind him.

He is not HELPING the situation but making it worse, what the presidents behind him did is of no consequence, it doesn't excuse him from his stupid Pro-ILLEGAL ALIEN stance.

As far as the senate goes, I gaurantee that most anti-illegal people are blaming them as much as they do Bush, both dem and republican senators alike.

The house has yet to have their final say but I am hoping they stand firm.

If not, it is time to clean house, vote for real conservatives and if none are available vote 3rd party but rid us of these self destructive morons we have running the country now!

Look, National Guardsmen are not police. They are soldiers, trained to fight enemy soldiers or to disperse crowds. But they can free up Border Patrolmen to be more effective and they can get their training on the border, so it's not a bad plan. Do you want us to shoot people the minute they cross over the border? If they're unarmed? Not good politics and not practical to put infantry. We need a paramilitary Border Guard, not the DoD there.

But he is doing something, trying more than the others, addressing the issue instead of sweeping under the rug

He is doing nothing, period, except pandering to his base, this legislation is "sweeping it under the rug". If he really wanted to do something he would make the INS and ICE enforce existing laws. He is calling for NEW laws after failing to enforce the old ones. We need NO new laws, we need enforcement, against the ILLEGALS and the ones hiring them.

As for us "doom and gloomers" not "seeing the big picture"(doesn't that sound like a liberal)who are you to tell us what the he** we see or don't see? In our eyes you open border people are the ones who "don't see the big picture" and wouldn't see it if it hit you in the face.

What part of enforce the existing laws is so hard to understand? What part of we need no new laws is so hard to understand?

You think he is doing something by backing some new idiot legislation that will repeat the mistakes made in 1986? How is that "seeing the big picture"?

You'd think that all people would see the danger it is to this country by not enforcing our laws. It is a mistake that was made in 1986 about to repeat itself. It has grown new legs because of the sheer number of people coming across the border now and that will be coming across because of lack of enforcement. If wanting to keep ILLEGALS, criminals all because they have broken our law,and possible terrorists out of our country is frothing at the mouth then I guess I am frothing.

Can't see the danger? Then take off your rose colored glasses, they are blinding you.

What rock are you living under? What did clinton do? What did Bush I do? Or any pres prior to GWB. He's addressing your pet issue, and it's still not good enough. Your one issue isn't being addressed like you want it, so, let's pack up the toys and go home. Pathetic idiots who think they understand politics shouldn't be allowed to play on the computer.
