The media have painted the picture that Nelson is essentially running against nobody and he still only gets 60% of the vote.

I didn't exactly see Jeb! and the other GOP leaders rushing to file paperwork- they have no business complaining.

Nelson must be thanking his lucky stars that Harris didn't get out of the race.

So he could run unopposed? Have all the Harris bashers noticed that she's the only one who bothered to mount a campaign against Nelson? Your complaints about Harris fall on deaf ears when considering that the entire Florida GOP is apparently a group of feckless nimrods.

A RINO is better than a left-wing Dem.

A vote for Bill Frist (idiot though he is) for Senate Majority Leader is better than a vote for Harry Reid (idiot) for Majority Leader.

Do you want to see Ted Kennedy heading up the Judiciary Committee?

Harris' candidacy is a lost cause.

she has obviously already lost it and should of gotten out for the good of the party.

Yeah she should get out and let Nelson run unopposed.

She is getting what she deserves.

What did she do wrong? Can't handle a nice, attractive mature woman running for office?

It just indicates that Florida is, politically speaking, going down the toilet.

"Both Bob Nelson and Martinez voted to continue offshore drilling for oil.

You sure about that? As I understand it the entire Florida delegation including Jeb is against drilling off of Florida's coast. I think it's a selfish hypocritical position to take but if you are correct I say it's a cudo to Nelson.

A lot of Republicans in Florida told her not to jump in to the race at all. They recognized that her name recognition and controversial past could mean a very mean, brutal primary fight. No suprise that prominent Republicans around the state stayed out once Harris jumped in.

"Way to go Florida GOP. You've got a weak Dem incumbent, so you go out and pick the worst candidate you can possibly find??"

That describes the California GOP.

I didn't know that. I'm still reeling from his last vote. Who would've thought to find him siding with pubbies? LOL!

Both Bob Nelson and Martinez voted to continue offshore drilling for oil.

I suppose you mean Bill Nelson and both he and Martinez voted against drilling for oil in the eastern Gulf of Mexico.

I'm a NY'er now in FLA. If its not too late lets get someone who is popular nationwide, out of state, with name recognition, and run them. All they have to say is that they were Devil Ray fans all their lives. It worked in NY.

What you've just described is a party of sniveling cowards.

The distinction isn't between moderate Republicans and real Republicans, it's between those that have a grasp of reality and those that don't.

One thing that helps in having a grasp on reality is actually knowing people that are Democrats or independents.

Every penny spent on Harris is a penny flushed directly down the toilet.

There wasn't a phone booth anywhere for Jeb to change into his superhero run-for-Senate outfit.

Many of the same people who defend anything Bush does have trashed this lady from the beginning. This is very typical of the moderate wing. They demand fealty from us but refuse to support our conservative candidates for whatever reason. These are the same people saying to vote for Rino's like DeWine.

Harris deserves support. She has been crucified by her own side, the same way Alan Keyes was. The result in Illinois was Obama. How do all the people that ridiculed Alan Keyes feel about him? Truthfully, since they are liberals, they like him just fine.

If the Rino's and the party would support Ms. Harris, rather than Nelson, she would still have a shot at the thing. It's several months out. I've seen our moderate wing do this again and again. They use innuendo, ridicule, and vague charges of incompetence to advance a liberal Democrat over a conservative.

We conservatives are supposed to play ball and support horrible liberal candidates with who run as Republicans, but our moderates won't reciprocate. "Rino's are better than Democrats," they tell us. Remember this one, folks. Bush is president because of this lady's faithfulness. What a bunch of ingrates on this board and in this party.

Legislation Would Protect Florida’s Coastline Far into the Future

Statement of Florida PIRG Director Mark Ferrulo on today’s introduction of Senator Martinez and Nelson’s Permanent Protection for Florida Act of 2006

“Today, Senators Nelson and Martinez introduced the Florida PIRG supported ‘Permanent Protection for Florida Act,’ a bill to protect Florida’s coast from offshore oil and gas drilling.

This legislation includes a list of coastal protections Floridians have long fought for. From making Florida’s current moratorium against offshore drilling leases permanent to canceling all existing drilling leases in Florida waters, this is a comprehensive bill that would provide long lasting protection for Florida’s world famous coastline. This bill is not only bi-partisan, it’s also bi-coastal, with a provision that extends coastal protections for numerous sensitive coastlines around the country from 2012 until 2020.”

LOL. I suspect you're right. But who, WHO, WHO is this candidate on the white horse to ride in and save the day? I shake my head in wonder that all the establishment Republicans bitch about Harris's candidancy, and not one person stepped forward to run against her. I'm beginning to think the Florida GOP is a bigger bunch of knuckleheads than the California GOP.
