First Class Teachers [from Presumptive Dem Nominee for Governor in Florida]
Jim Davis ^ | 5/11/2006 | Jim Davis

Today, I'm very pleased to announce my First Class Teachers plan, which will dramatically increase the salaries of Florida's teachers by an average of $3,835 during my first year in office without raising taxes. For much too long, our teacher salaries have lagged far behind the national average. By underpaying our teachers, we are undervaluing our education system and cheating our children. My plan will bring Florida's teacher salaries into the nationally competitive range – without increasing taxes.

Florida's promise to our children is a quality education that allows them to reach their highest potential. By investing in and building a world-class education system, we will prepare our children to succeed in a competitive global economy. The best way to invest in building a world-class education system is to recruit and retain the best and brightest to teach our children. I believe we can – and must – do better for our children, for our teachers and for our schools.

If you want to hear more about the specifics of my First Class Teachers plan, please click here to view the full plan. Together, we will raise teacher salaries and start making a real investment in educating our children. I would love to hear your thoughts about this plan in the comments on this blog post.

Could you place me on the Florida ping list, and by the way, Florida ping that news release from the Florida Insider about the Legislature leadership?

Not all teachers in FL have affairs with their students.

I'm a registered Republican but I cannot and will not vote for Harris and I could see a lot worse than Davis. We need the voucher system back. It was great when we had it. Government morons!

This won't help him one bit. If he isn't already getting every last leftist teacher's vote he ought to dig himself a hole and crawl in.

I don't like that this guy talks about Gov Bush's "failed" education programs. That is an outright lie -- Gov Bush did not "fail" in terms of education in this state. Consequently, I am having a difficult time buying into anything else this Jim Davis says, since his opening statement -- about Florida's Favorite Governor -- was completely off the mark, IMO.

Gov Bush has had a lot of success in improving education in this state. That is one of the reasons he was re-elected by such a large margin in 2002. Also, Gov Bush's record of success is not over yet (again, IMO).
