Mexican-born citizen Maria Galvan, 53, has worked for Bush, looked after his daughters, befriended his wife and won the affection of the first family for her loyalty, decency and hard work. As governor of Texas, Bush encouraged his housekeeper to become a U.S. citizen. Was she legal?

If this person was illegal and working in the TX Gov's mansion, then I have a real problem with that. By the way, I am a Texan and live in Texas.

(The White House last week refused to comment on Galvan, except to
say that she is a U.S. citizen; White House aides were silent on how
she entered the country and what her legal status was at the time.)

"Bush recognized early on that inspiring Latino family stories could be a boon to the Republican Party."He should tell the story about the 20 Mexicans who moved in two houses down from me. Tell about how all my tools were stolen from my van shortly thereafter.

He grew up in a wealthy family and never wanted for anything. He doesn't have to pay a mortgage and worry about bills. He probably never has had to worry about those things. He has probably had help with raising his children using nannies and housekeepers.I told you.

I fail to see what this little story has to do with anything. It does come from Newsweak via Newsmax so that tells me it is an attempted hit piece.

Personally, I would hope that the inspiration the President received from his
American housekeeper of Mexican decent is that other Mexicans should follow the same process she did to become American.
Guess not.

Hah--I've been saying this for years. Texas aristocrats who get sentimental about house help, and want everyone else to know what Great White Fathers they are.
They sorta forget about Joe Sixpack who mows his own lawn, raises his own kids and the Mrs. who swabs her own toilet.
They're too busy rhapsodizing about what a treasure she is.
I see this among the resort golf set. They whine...they work so hard. What they really mean is I just love how humble and subservient they are. Makes me feel like the Kindhearted Massa. We musn't talk about unpleasant things like "illegal"
