AP: "Too Close to Call"

NEW ORLEANS — Voters were deciding Saturday whether incumbent Mayor Ray Nagin or challenger Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu should oversee this city's long recovery from Hurricane Katrina — one of the largest reconstruction projects in U.S. history.

Whoever wins the too-close-to-call election takes office a day before the June 1 start of the next hurricane season in a city where streets are still strewn with rusting, mud-covered cars and entire neighborhoods consist of homes that are empty shells.

Having Nagin 'oversee' the rebuilding of New Orleans would be like putting Captain Edward John Smith in charge of raising the Titanic.

they can't call it cause half the city is working off of cell phones still, and pollsters can't call cells .. and a good % of population still hasn't returned, but they got the busses running for them, amazingly.

The choice in this election is between incompetence and corruption. Better incompetence should win

My wild guess, is that Nagin will get 55% of the vote. What do I base that on? Nothing, except the Couhig endorsement, and feeling the ether in the air. Nagin needed to be shreaded, and instead, it was a very polite affair. Status quo ante rules. There was no compelling reason for a change.

Buisness as usual regardless of who wins. New Orleans will be open again for corruption and incompetence. Either the idiot who hid during Katrina or the son of one of the most corrupt governors in the nations history.

This man probably showed the most sense of anyone in New Orleans at the time. First of all, no one knew how polluted the water was ~ if you needed something to drink better beer or wine ~ something with some antiseptic qualities.

Secondly, get as much as you can carry because there's likely to not be anymore.

Ignore those standing high and dry on the bridge above ridiculing you. They'll soon run out of water themselves and may be reduced to drinking sewage.

And Freepers who ridicule you? Ignore them too ~ someday they may be in a natural calamity, and you'll get your turn to laugh at them sitting there in their own waste, crying in their hands, despondent that there's nothing safe to drink.

I want Nagin to win. The Landrieu family is to Louisiana what the Kennedy family is to Massachusetts.

My 55% Nagin wild guess, is now turning into an educated guess. The current totals are white top heavy. The odds are pretty good that we can call this race for Nagin in about 30 minutes.
