AP: "Too Close to Call"
NEW ORLEANS Voters were deciding Saturday whether incumbent Mayor Ray Nagin or challenger Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu should oversee this city's long recovery from Hurricane Katrina one of the largest reconstruction projects in U.S. history.
Whoever wins the too-close-to-call election takes office a day before the June 1 start of the next hurricane season in a city where streets are still strewn with rusting, mud-covered cars and entire neighborhoods consist of homes that are empty shells.

I can't believe anyone would be pulling for Nagin, except...
absentee vote has been counted they are announcing
landrieu and Nagin split the absentees right now the middle
Nagin is getting 22% of the white vote, and Landrieu 19% of the black vote. That is curtains, it would appear, for the L man, unless the absentees are a life raft for him or the remaining precincts are more white than what has come in so far, which is doubtful. Nagin won the absentee by 58 votes. This race is very close to a wrap, but not quite yet.
foflol!
The SoS works for the Governor...LOL

If Nagin can get some new faces on the city council I feel good about the future
I agree. I saw them both in interviews last week. Landrieu was outright creepy, Nagin just mouthing like a typical pol.
Would you rather an incompetent buffoon party boy running NO, or a corrupt family dynasty?
Absentees and early voting ballots have been counted and added to the official totals from the SoS Office.
I know exactly how you feel. I felt the same way for the longest time. Even after I went through Hurricane Andrew (northern eye wall, 165+mph winds), I still get something of that excitement when a hurricane comes around.. Of course, its not the same as before, but I understand your sentiments, and dont think you are insane, well, no more so than I :)
I just hope that NO survives whomever is elected. It's hard to get mad at Nagin tho. He's such a dufus.
About 20,000 votes outstanding . . .
Has Rev Al and Je$$e Jackass been seen on TV yet?
I hope Nagin can get enough dead voters to pull this off.
Now we need someone to beat Landrieu out of the Lt Gov office. IN two years if we play this right the Landrieus could be dead politically forever in this state
I just was on the Secretary of State election internet site and it has Nagin ahead. But, the interesting item is the voter turnout. It is absolutely terrible at about 16-17%. If that is really true, it does not bode well for the Democrat Party traitor/vermin across the board. It means that even in a critical path race like this one, the mainly Democrat "rank and file" could care less. Well, I guess that happens when all your political party does is bad mouth the opposition, and has no program or plan of its own. Sad, but the Democrat Party has outlived its usefullness, and needs its heart ripped out at the ballot box, both in NOLA and nationally!!!
