AP: "Too Close to Call"
NEW ORLEANS Voters were deciding Saturday whether incumbent Mayor Ray Nagin or challenger Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu should oversee this city's long recovery from Hurricane Katrina one of the largest reconstruction projects in U.S. history.
Whoever wins the too-close-to-call election takes office a day before the June 1 start of the next hurricane season in a city where streets are still strewn with rusting, mud-covered cars and entire neighborhoods consist of homes that are empty shells.

Cliffhanger .. and the mystery ballot boxes get ready to be "found" as needed !
Mayor Daley enroute to handle the recount, recount, recount, recount, recount, ad nauseum.
WDSU and ABC calling Nagin the winner
Is Gov Gregoire flying in from Washington State?
wow. Go Nay Nay. MItch underestimated the Republican White Vote I think Thank God for Couhig for endorsing Nagin.
This is so bizarre...
Reading down the thread..it goes from Landrieu up by 4%..to Nagin being projected as winner to being tied at 50%...
That is good...both of the candidates should have to sweat it..since I think neither of them are good candidates..but, since I don't have to live there...
I don't want a Landrieu in NO---with family ties to the Washington purse.
368 of 442 Precincts 83%
Ray Nagin (I) 37,221 51%
Mitch Landrieu 35,675 49%
Wow. The Landrieu crime syndicate must be in misery. Don't count on Nagin's support for Blanco next year.
No kidding. If Nagin can't manufacture ballots in the chaos that is this election, he doesn't deserve the title of Louisiana politician.
Why do you want hurricane season?
I live in Georgia, and I can certainly get hit by a hurricane. But that's not my reasoning. I just can't stand the CNN/Fox News OBSESSION with it. No 24 hour media for me during hurricane season.
"We'll be back with the latest hurricane track, yes we showed you this 5 minutes ago and 2 minutes ago, but you need to know we have nothing new."
Nagin ahead now with a lead of 1,500 votes with 83% in. Unless the lead widens, we will have to wait for the absentee count.
I think Nagin was over his head during Katrina, but I don't see him as an evil guy, unlike the Landrieu machine, and that's the bottom line.
as we were discussing the votes from, say, Metarie Cemetary, a friend asked if they count each body or each bone in each body .. that can affect the income, doncha know
Oh no. I think this is over. lol.
Attention Gov Blanco-- This is not good news for you. Nagin will not lift an hand to help you
Attention Sen Landrieu-- Your brother want be controlling NOLa for you. your in trouble
Things are pretty bad in a state when we are rooting for an idiot to win.
I don't know, I just love tracking hurricanes. I hope to experience a strong one (I experienced a CAT 1 in 2003) at some point in my life. I know I sound insane, but I love disasters. And you don't need to tell me that I wouldn't feel that way if I went through it.
