Social Security for illegals OK'd

Senate blocks effort to limit benefits for those who become legal residents

The U.S. Senate today rejected an effort to limit Social Security benefits for illegal aliens who become permanent residents under an immigration reform bill being debated.

As it stands, the bill the Senate is considering would give millions of illegals a path to U.S. citizenship if they pay fines, back taxes and meet other requirements.

The Social Security proposal, offered by Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., would have prevented illegals who become legal from collecting the benefit on wages they earned while working unlawfully.

"Social Security was not intended for people who entered our country illegally," Ensign is quoted as saying.

Countered Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.: "Their money sits in the Social Security Administration waiting to be matched with an eligible beneficiary, and once those workers establish the eligibility, how in all fairness can we deny them the credit for their past contributions?"

Reuters reported that later today senators will consider an amendment to the bill by Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., to make English the national language.

As WorldNetDaily reported, yesterday the Senate approved an amendment to the immigration reform bill that would direct the building of a triple-layer fence along 370 miles of the southern border with Mexico.

The Bush administration today indicated the president supported the fence proposal.

"[Bush] doesn't think you fence off the entire border but there are places ... where fences are appropriate, and then, you build fences there," spokesman Tony Snow said.

Mexicans get jobs that they won't allow anyone else to take from them.

On some coffee farms in the Pacific, Mexican bean pickers will hustle and fill 4 to 5 coffee bags a day, each bag weighing about 60 lbs.

They get paid $100 per bag which equates to over $100,000 a year.

Should anyone else try to get one of those jobs, the Mexican gangs will fight them.

But the Mexican coffee farm workers get paid in cash with a 1099 sent in to comply with the law. They never get FICA withheld from their pay and in fact there is no withholding. They are considered independent contractors.

Now here is a question:

For Americans who want coffee farm jobs but are barred by Mexican gangs, should the American government favor the American worker over the Mexican worker because the American will pay taxes whereas the Mexican will not bother to file?

Here is another question:

How many Freepers out there who are American citizens would like to work in the tropics, pick coffee beans all day and earn $150,000 a year with 6 weeks off time?

Can an invalid SS# be used to deny or terminate employment?

If someone randomly picked my SS# to work under does that mean they get all my benefits instead of me?

That may be a new thing to do. Go to the border and hand out your SS# to illegals. Tell them to use it, along with your name when they work. Come retirement, you will have a lifetime income of several million, and will retire in luxury.

That is another "good" way we can exploit these illegals. Cheap labor for business. Easy money for "entrepreneurs". The governement can look the other way in both instances.

BTW, **not** recommended. With your name & SS#, illegals could use them to defraud you of money (take out loans in your name, etc).

Its simply amazing to think about what is going on with Mexico. This corrupt government presides over a third world disaster, and “dumps” its yearning masses into the United States. Mexico should be doing something about illegal immigration but they encourage it. Mexico enforces stricter immigration laws then the US, and yet our politicians embrace Mexico as a friend. It makes me wonder why many in Washington are loathe to offend Mexico.

After reading through the posts this day, what can I say but I am speechless. I am shaking my head in amazement. What is to become of the United States of America?

Bond by Bond they rupture the respect we once had for our government. What happens if no respect remains by the governed towards the governor?

Even if not for the identity theft issue, remember that SS benefits are not proportional to earnings and they stop growing entirely above $94K/yr. So having a bunch of earnings above that cutoff reported doesn't do you any good on the SS benefits formula.

On the other hand, you COULD get a tax refund for overpayment of FICA taxes paid during the year. No need to wait until retirement.

If there were ten illegals using your SS# and employers were withholding a couple thousand bucks from each one, you could get a twenty thousand dollar tax refund that year !

I wonder if you could put a stop on Experian and the other credit agencies to prevent anyone from getting new credit in your name and under your SS#. So you have all the credit cards, mortgage and everything you need, and you prevent any new credit from being issued. That eliminates the identity theft problem but you still get the big tax refund for overpayment of FICA.

[Mexico should be doing something about illegal immigration but they encourage it.]

Actually, Mexico is very harsh with illegal immigration. They shoot people that enter their country illegaly.

I think you meant "emigration", which is people leaving a country. "Immigration" is people entering a country.

What they are doing -- according to a program last week -- is stealing newborns' ID's..... SS is aware of this and doesn't notify the parents because of one of those walls put in place by the Clinton Administration.

The new math they are teaching in California -- you get credit, now, if you get close; as long as you can explain how you arrived at the wrong answer.

Wave goodbye to your kids future.

The Republican party has become what the Democratic party was 40 years ago, and the Democratic party has become the Socialist party.

There is one GOOD hing about this... Maybe, when America is fully aware of the ramifications of this incredibly damaging decision, they will get on board with PRIVATIZING SOCIAL SECURITY. I would much prefer the gummint let me keep my money and invest it my way. I'd be a millionaire 3 times over by the time I retired.
