Senate blocks effort to limit benefits for those who become legal residents

The U.S. Senate today rejected an effort to limit Social Security benefits for illegal aliens who become permanent residents under an immigration reform bill being debated.
As it stands, the bill the Senate is considering would give millions of illegals a path to U.S. citizenship if they pay fines, back taxes and meet other requirements.
The Social Security proposal, offered by Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., would have prevented illegals who become legal from collecting the benefit on wages they earned while working unlawfully.
"Social Security was not intended for people who entered our country illegally," Ensign is quoted as saying.
Countered Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.: "Their money sits in the Social Security Administration waiting to be matched with an eligible beneficiary, and once those workers establish the eligibility, how in all fairness can we deny them the credit for their past contributions?"
Reuters reported that later today senators will consider an amendment to the bill by Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., to make English the national language.
As WorldNetDaily reported, yesterday the Senate approved an amendment to the immigration reform bill that would direct the building of a triple-layer fence along 370 miles of the southern border with Mexico.
The Bush administration today indicated the president supported the fence proposal.
"[Bush] doesn't think you fence off the entire border but there are places ... where fences are appropriate, and then, you build fences there," spokesman Tony Snow said.
How many illegals were using valid SS#'S??? For how long have we been issuing SS numbers to illegal aliens?
The more I read about this illegal immigrant business, the more I feel like I'm tripping out on LSD. Just what the hell are these a$$holes doing to this country?
These Senators have taken all leave of their senses (not that they had much to begin with).
The major problem is that it is filled with IOUs otherwise known as non-market T-bills, which can only be redeemed by the USG. The SSTF represents a liability, is part of the national debt, and has no real assets. SS is a pay as you go system, which will start paying out more money than it is taking in 2017. Starting in 2008, the SS "surplus" will start declining.
Compassionate conservative economics 101 at work for you.
Easy.
It's called, "asset forfeiture".
If it's good enough for American criminals, it's good enough for Mexican ones, too.
Ilegals can be issued Federal ID numbers to use instead of SS#'s. When ilegals use SS#'s, they are generally made up or fake.
Don't forget that setting up a new law to do so is "comprehensive"
I can't wait til Frist has be addressed as "Senate Minority Leader" in a few months, what a bunch of crooks, they're allowing the privatizing of profits and the socializing of costs. I am gladly sending all the Senatorial Campaign committee junk mail back to them letting them know I'm not giving them anything because they won't seal the border.
so another 100 million people won't accelerate the decline over the next ten years?. Thats providing they all work and pay into SS right?
Even if they paid into it under stolen SSN's?
...and if I remember correctly, they can even collect while living in, you got it, Mexico.
Doogle
If someone illegally used your SSN, all the benefits should go to you, not to them. This is one reason everyone should check with the Social Security boobocracy
regularly to make sure no other employer has been listed than those that you have worked for.
"How on earth will they match contributions to the illegals when they never had valid SS numbers in the first place. If someone randomly picked my SS# to work under does that mean they get all my benefits instead of me?"
I see.
I guess this means you support Bush's Social Security Totalization Agreement with Mexico.
Under the terms of the agreement, signed by Bush's appointed SSA Commissioner, Jo Ann Barnhart on June 29, 2004, Mexican illegal aliens will be eligible to apply for, and receive benefits after having worked for only 6 quarters (18 months) while US citizens only become eligible to apply after having worked 40 quarters (10 years).
Additionally, the Mexican illegal alien can apply for, and receive US SSA benefits for his Mexican (national) wife and children, even if they've never stepped foot in the US.
On the other hand, the US government routinely deprives American citizens of their illegal gains through asset forfeiture laws.
Can you please explain why Mexican illegal aliens should not be subject to these laws while American citizens are?
When the SSA encounters an invalid or duplicate SSA, their routine procedure is to simply issue a new SSN.
Of course not, they should be sent to jail, then deported, but illegals not using phoney or made up SS#'s can be issued Fed Tax ID#'s under which they can pay taxes, get refunds, qualify for the earned income credit (welfare).
And the RINOs are:
Brownback
Chafee
DeWine
Graham
Hagel
Lugar
Martinez
McCain
Specter
Voinovich
There you have it. And Bush supported Martinez and Specter over conservatives in the primaries last election..
And how is that considered 'fair' to taxpayers who make less than $30,000 with NO kids? As with everything else re: the federal government, it's NOT fair. Those who don't have kids pay taxes FOR those who DO have kids. It sucks.
"Anyone who makes less then $30,000 and has kids does not pay taxes at all but gets more then they pay in back as a refund."
Well, since virtually every illegal alien who paid into the system was using someone else's (or made up) number, how do they plan to sort that out? Will benefits for a given number be given to the first to file a claim? Or perhaps preference will go to the first Mexican who files a claim for a particular number.
