Social Security for illegals OK'd
Senate blocks effort to limit benefits for those who become legal residents

The U.S. Senate today rejected an effort to limit Social Security benefits for illegal aliens who become permanent residents under an immigration reform bill being debated.
As it stands, the bill the Senate is considering would give millions of illegals a path to U.S. citizenship if they pay fines, back taxes and meet other requirements.
The Social Security proposal, offered by Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., would have prevented illegals who become legal from collecting the benefit on wages they earned while working unlawfully.
"Social Security was not intended for people who entered our country illegally," Ensign is quoted as saying.
Countered Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass.: "Their money sits in the Social Security Administration waiting to be matched with an eligible beneficiary, and once those workers establish the eligibility, how in all fairness can we deny them the credit for their past contributions?"
Reuters reported that later today senators will consider an amendment to the bill by Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., to make English the national language.
As WorldNetDaily reported, yesterday the Senate approved an amendment to the immigration reform bill that would direct the building of a triple-layer fence along 370 miles of the southern border with Mexico.
The Bush administration today indicated the president supported the fence proposal.
"[Bush] doesn't think you fence off the entire border but there are places ... where fences are appropriate, and then, you build fences there," spokesman Tony Snow said.
We're talking about millions of numbers the IRS says they cannot match up to an eligible worker.
Can you recall your senator? We just recalled our city council, why not McShame?
As if the crime of sneaking across the border or allowing a visa to expire suddenly makes EVERY SINGLE act on American soil "a crime".....
This is really getting pathetic!
I think people's bitterness on the issue of illegal immigrants is truly causing all logic to fall into a black hole of hate.
If people worked here for 20 years, GIVE THEM freakin Social Security....they worked and contributed to society just like anyone else, and perhaps more so than many natural born Americans.
In any case they'll just end up on welfare, otherwise. So what?
This is what happens when you have a very weak/corrupt second party.... the rotten apples end up spoiling the whole barrel.
Smart and he's handsome, too.
I'm sticking with Kyl -- the alternative is not good. Our congressional represenative, Trent Franks is 'pretty good' though I wish he voted more with JD than some others.
I watch Internation Home Hunter on HGTV and property isn't cheap in either location, but oh those views...
Good point.
Oops !
I forgot the illegal worker probably didn't have any income tax withheld because his wages were too low to owe anything. But when the IRS adds their wages onto yours, you'll owe income taxes at YOUR HIGHEST MARGINAL RATE. Doubtful the refunded overpayment of FICA taxes will offset the additional income taxes the IRS wants you to cough up.
Darn. Another great illegal scheme bites the dust.
A: Denying wrongdoers the fruits of their criminality is eminently "fair".
Would a bank robber sitting in jail who hid the money and it was never recovered be allowed to freely keep it once out?
Come on we all know where this is headed, right? Step one is to get an amnesty act passed then step two will be to offer the illegals every possible welfare program we have. The Dems will lead this charge so that when they can vote, they will vote Dem to keep getting their goodies.
Any Repulican that looks at this issue as just one issue and can't see how it tears at WOT, WOD, Taxes, Governament Size it simply not acknowledging reality. Wake up Republicans, if this goes through as is, many of our core beliefs (not just immigration) are in serious danger.
Sigh...
See post 60- warning- duct tape your head to prevent exploding head components.
He had 4 co-sponsors too, to be fair.
I love most of the phony balogny Replublicans that said in the past, well I don't like the symbolism of a wall on our borders. SYMBOLISM?!?!?! What about the symbolism of a declining health care, education, criminal justice and welfare system under the weight of 12M more people that are mostly uneducated in low wage jobs. But I digress... But now that the Senate has voted for a wall well OK, as long as it is only 370 miles not 2000 miles. Wait, let me get this straight the "symbolism" of a 370 mile wall is OK, now.... I hate to say it, but some of these Republicans seems not really that different from Dems.
This is morally warped.
These people worked for and earned their money just like any legal citizen has.
The idea that we should declare EVERY SINGLE act in this country illegal because a person sneaked across the border is nothing more than spite.
I find this kind of vengengeful position perhaps more reprehensible than the simple act of sneaking across any border could ever be.
The IRS, SS Admin and ICE don't talk to each other. Add to this a lack of will to enforce law, then nothing happens. Ideally, this is a great way to screen employees and catch illegals and ID thiefs.
I think I'd rather own the coffee farm!
Not a bad gig, if you have a paramilitary security detail. I'll bet I could scrape together some Freepers...hmmmmm
Just one more thing the Clinton Admin gutted -- this case from the 1986 law.
Hey, check this thread out- especially post 60.
