The Heritage Foundation wasn't incorrect per se--they were looking at combat arms enlistments (that was what the study was about). Yes, Hispanics do tend to enlist in noncombat specialties slightly more than whites, but in this day and age, "non-combat" is a very relative term. (Motor T is a hell of a lot less safe in Iraq than, say, loader on an M1A2 Abrams or being a cannon-cocker.)

I think we're supposed to hate Mexicans.

I don't think so, but the Mexicans seem to have a pretty good hatred of the US. Their lack of any sincere sympathy after 9/11 was telling and certainly opened my eyes about our neighbors' less than friendly attitude.

Mexico is a succesful, multi-party democracy with one of the strongest, most diverse econonomies in the world, currently governed by a conservative free market businessman. You don't like illegal immigration? Fine. But stop this stupid, pseudo-racial attack on all things Mexican. Vincente Fox is not Stalin.

I’m not a flaming anti-immigrant nor against legal immigration. To imply that is offensive. Fox is doing the best he can, under difficult circumstances, IMO.

Before you make claims about Mexican politics and her economy, you should do the research first. The Mexican economy fails to be “one of the strongest, most diverse economies in the world.” President Fox is trying but he’s faced with a fascist, mercantile legislature, which he has had little success overcoming. Fox has also been unwilling to take a strong stand against them, and his policies are not doing the Mexican people any favors.

In essence, Mexico exports unemployment to the US and survives in part by the money sent back to Mexico by workers in this country. You can add a successful tourist industry that I presume is also helping provide revenue to the Mexican government.

From economic definitions, Mexico is “mercantile, socialistic and fascist.” Mexico has an extensive welfare state: socialistic. Mexico is protectionist towards foreign trade and foreign investment: mercantilism. Mexico is fascist by the continued alliance of private business with state owned and controlled industries.

If you don’t like the truth, go fix it. If you can’t accept the truth, I can’t offer any suggestions. Search Google and the CIA fact book and you may learn something.

But how much do you think it compares to anti-Mexicanism about some Americans?

I don't think their is much racial animosity at all here in the US, just justified concern about the rule of law being patently ignored by illegal immigrants pouring over the borders. You seem to think everything is about racism, just like Jesse Jackson...

The MSM strikes again. Stats like this are spouted all the time but they are fantasies.

You ask people what their opinions are of New York in a Red Sox game, and what exactly do you think you'll hear? Probably a lot worse than what you'd hear at a Mexican soccer game.

I have never heard any reference or lauding of a terrorist in connection with the Yankees, the worst being "Yankees suck!" as far as I have heard.

You are aware that we're on a thread accusing Mexicans of... GASP... racism?

The irony is underwhelming.

Don't know about others but it sure gets discouraging when we keep trying to judge people by their character and organizations, including our own government, keeps breaking out racial profiles.

I know lots of Mexicans who like the US a lot. So I think attributing characteristics to "the Mexicans" is probably a pretty broad statement.

Anyway, millions of Mexicans want to become American citizens -- that hardly seems like anti-US hatred.

If these illegal immigrants love America so much, why were there so many Mexican flags and so few American flags on that first half-million illegal immigrant march a couple of months ago? Why so many racist posters calling for Reconquista, founding of Aztlan, sending the "Europeans" home, etc.?

I'm unconvinced about the 'citizen' thing.

I read a thread earlier in the week which reported that Americans booed during the playing of the Canadian National Anthem before a hockey game in the US.

There would not be a Mexican GDP without the US helping out.

Other than oil and tourism, what is Mexico known for? Although, I do believe there is a growing ag industry. But, again it's state/business owned.

I'm unconvinced about the 'citizen' thing.

According to your Bureau of Immigration and Citizenship Services, there is a huge backlog of Mexican residents waiting to obtain US citizenship. Oh well.

I don't see how cheering the name of a terrorist mass murderer like Osama Bin Laden can be anything other than racism on the part of Mexicans. I don't see any irony at all.

The level of violence at the Los Angeles Coliseum has increased so much that you actually have alerts during "traffic reports" to avoid the area when these "international soccer matches" are going on.

Those are the code words to listen for.

Agreed! There is a big difference between American citizens who are of Mexican descent and the current crop of protesters who are complaining about America.

There would not be a Mexican GDP without the US helping out.

And there would not be a US GDP without Mexico helping out. Mexico is the US's second largest trading partner, both for imports and exports, and its single largest source of oil.

Other than oil and tourism, what is Mexico known for?

Agriculture? Chemicals? Iron and steel? Mining? Manufacturing?
