Call for video of Mex soccer fans chanting "Osama" when playing the US

February 15, 1998 in Los Angeles, USA - "During a game between the US and Mexico February 15, the US soccer team was not only booed and jeered throughout the entire game by Mexican fans, but were continually pelted with water, beer and in some cases solid objects like fruit from the over 60,000 fans in attendance.

One player was hit during with a water balloon during a corner kick attempt. As the team left the field at the end of both halves, beer and other debris rained down on them as they tried to run through the tunnel to their locker room. Mexico's fans in the end got the best of Uncle Sam as the Mexican national team defeated the US, 1-0.

This type of behavior is nothing new in Mexico, England, most of Europe, or any other Latin American countries. Home nations make it a matter of habit to act like idiots to visiting teams, and this incident was no different; except that it happened in Los Angeles, California!

Now, the rivalry between these two national teams has become pretty heated as the US has become a somewhat meager soccer power of sorts, but what happened in this case is completely inexcusable because it happened on America's own soil."

February 5, 2004 in Zapopan, Mexico "Last Thursday, when the U.S. played Canada in a qualifying round in Zapopan before 1,500 Mexicans, the crowd hooted "The Star-Spangled Banner," it booed U.S. goals. And it chanted "Osama! Osama! Osama" as the American players left the field with a 2-0 victory."

February 10, 2004 in Guadalajara, Mexico "In the 26th minute, the throng began chanting 'Osama! Osama!' at the Americans, but they appeared inured to such taunting and eager for a game of beautiful desperation in an attempt to reach the Olympics."

March 27, 2005 in Mexico City, Mexico "There was some booing and whistling during 'The Star-Spangled Banner' but the Americans expected worse. After the game, about 100 people gathered for a peaceful celebration near Mexico City's Angel of Independence monument. A few first tried to burn, then trampled a small American flag while chanting 'Osama! Osama!'"

I would like to go to a Mexican soccer match and chant "Winfield Scott! Winfield Scott!"

"During a game between the US and Mexico February 15 (1998, L.A. Coliseum), the US soccer team was not only booed and jeered throughout the entire game by Mexican fans, but were continually pelted with water, beer and in some cases solid objects like fruit from the over 60,000 fans in attendance.

Saw the highlights of the game that night on a local LA station, and it was reported that "urine bombs" (water ballons with urine) were being thrown not only at the American players but at the (few) fans in attendance who had the nerve to actually root for the (home?) American team. (Our National Anthem was booed, as well).

This all highlights the fact that the allegiance of the vast majority of both illegal aliens and legal Mexican-Americans resides with their third-world hellhole of origin. (There are exceptions, of course). They despise us out of envy, and aim to take back what they believe to be theirs by breeding like rabbits -- anchor babies away! No fear of deportion, no intention of assimilating.

Who gives a sh-t about a bunch of stupid soccer fans. Reminds me of the OVERREACTION by Calipornia Conservatives when the Mexicans booed the national anthem.

This is why much of the world doesn't like that we don't care about their stupid nationalist racist matches.

If games were a big event in the US, their adolescent pranks might mean more.

I think we're supposed to hate Mexicans.

Why, do you hate Mexicans?

Or better yet, do you like anyone who hates America?

A simple yes or no will do.

[What are you trying to imply, that Mexican sports fans have bad taste...?]

I take it that it's just traditional SOCCER FANS WORLDWIDE who are the jackasses.

I don't think anyone is surprised when a stadium full of soccer fans riots and beats up, maims or kills the opposing team's fans, so why would anyone notice when they just throw stuff and jeer like idiots?

Unfortunately, every country (and for that matter, nearly every massive stadium sport) has its "soccer hooligans."

So, one can logically presume there are strong anti-American Mexicans living in Los Angeles and other US cities.

Yes, but context is everything. You ask people what their opinions are of New York in a Red Sox game, and what exactly do you think you'll hear? Probably a lot worse than what you'd hear at a Mexican soccer game.

Mexico is corrupt within her socialistic and fascist politics.

Mexico is a succesful, multi-party democracy with one of the strongest, most diverse econonomies in the world, currently governed by a conservative free market businessman. You don't like illegal immigration? Fine. But stop this stupid, pseudo-racial attack on all things Mexican. Vincente Fox is not Stalin.

Don't remember ever seeing a video of it. But I searched anyway and found this video of a practical joke someone purportedly played on some day laborers. Kind of amusing. Probably a fake though. 'Course, in any event, turning them into the INS or helping law enforcement in any way is seen as racist.

What kind of football (ahem, not soccer!)

Well, we had to call it something... the term "football" was already taken.

"BTW, Mexican-Americans, many of them described here as "anchor babies," are serving in the US military in greater numbers than their proportion of the population at large."

Really? Where can I find stats on the number of "anchor babies" that joined the military? Thanks in advance.

PS - The Heritage Foundation has issued at least one research paper, probably more, on military demographics. If I recall correctly the ratio of pop % to enlistment for whites was .98 and for Hispanics it was slightly lower, like .95. That doesn't sound like an over representation to me. That report I read was issued late last year.

Multi-party democracy my @ss. How long was PRI in power? 70 years? If the economy is so great there why the hell are millions of their citizens moving here? I have travelled in Mexico multiple times and speak Spanish so don't try and tell me different than what I have seen with my own eyes.

This is classic troll post from the DU looking to quote mine from our occassional rascist FReeper and thus smear us all by association. I'm a troll because I point out the alarming recurrence of Mexicans chanting "Osama" at soccer matches? So, what's the rule on posting at freerepubilic according to you? It seems you've got your own set of protocols for what can be posted. BTW, I have more faith in the intelligence and fairness of people here to not expect that kind of reaction in large numbers, but I guess you hold posters here in a lower regard.

"Really? Where can I find stats on the number of "anchor babies" that joined the military? Thanks in advance."

I was using the FR mine-the-border-crowd definition of "anchor baby," which seems to be "any Mexican who turns out to be a US citizen."

IIRC, the Heritage Foundation played with the numbers a bit by restricting it to certain combat arms enlistments, not counting officer accessions or overall enlistments, and ignoring reenlistments.

If Heritage Foundation is no good then could you direct me to a source you deem more credible on the subject so I can check it out. I hear the left spout this ethnic mumbo jumbo and I have always thought they were incorrect. Perhaps it is I that have been wrong all along.

Hispanics certainly earned their share of Medals of Honor for being, until recently, a pretty small part of the population:

http://www.homeofheroes.com/e-books/mohE_hispanic/index.html

I am aware of the study you reference, and it showed Hispanics and Whites were almost equally (as compared to their percentage in the population) part of Combat Arms.

Multi-party democracy my @ss. How long was PRI in power? 70 years?

And today there are three major parties.

If the economy is so great there why the hell are millions of their citizens moving here?

Because not everybody is rich. But the Mexican GDP is more than $1 trillion per annum by purchasing power, which gives Mexico one of the largest economies in the world, larger than that of South Korea, Russia, India and Brazil and almost twice that of Australia.
