"Sessions R-AL Amendment:
Funds construction for 370 miles of fence and 500 miles of vehicle barriers along the US-Mexico border.
Passed: 83
Against: 16"

It is good.
But the border is 2000 miles long.
83 miles are currently fenced.
This means that 453 miles will be fenced.
Which means that 1547 miles will not be fenced.
Which means that illegal immigration vectors will shift further out into the deserts, but the flood will continue.

If you dam 1/4 of the river, you've spent a lot of money to do nothing.

The wall has to go from sea to sea.

You have to put gaps in it for roads - but those are guarded. And you probably need some wildlife gaps, which can also be guarded.

Also, fences don't get government retirement benefits after 20 years of service. We need Border Patrol, but you need a lot less Border Patrol agents if you have a lot more Israeli Wall.

Yeah, but if you've ever driven out there, it's clear that this fence will stop most of the current crossings. There's some real moonscape out there in those other 1547 miles.

It's a start. And, unlike immigration bills which are only revisted every 20 years, border security legislation can be beefed up every year.

I try not to be a 100%er. Hopefully, the House will insist on 1000 miles of fence and they can settle on 750.
