Not convincing?
Lemme see - Reagan signed an amnesty and did not secure the border. Illegal immigration increased.
Bush started talking guest worker program without the border secured. Illegal immigration increased.
It has long been a tenet of conservatism that if government rewards bad behavior, you tend to get more of it. And that is clearly the case here. If we fail to secure the border and have either a guest worker program or some kind of amnesty or both, history CLEARLY shows it will only increase illegal immigration as people stream here to be in position for the next legislation trying to deal with the fact that we left the door open.
It has nothing to do with anecdotal trash thrown at the President for talking about guest workers.
If there were no jobs there would be no illegals.
Let me throw this out here for the sake of comment.
1. Secure the border. I think we all agree on that.
2. Make the consequences of being a business with an illegal on your payroll not worth the risk (i.e. fines, penalties, loss of eligibility for government contracts, ect.)
Most are comming here illegally to work. Make it hard/risky for a business to hire them in the first place.
I have an assignment for you. Go dig up that speech or newspaper quote where Bush said: I want a guest worker program, just make sure the borders aren't secured. I'll wait.
