This morning President and Mrs. Bush greeted Australian Prime Minister John Howard and his wife, Janette to the White House in an official South Lawn Arrival Ceremony as part of a state visit, followed by a meeting of the two leaders in the Oval Office, and a joint statement to the press in the East Room. There will be an official State Dinner at the White House this evening.
This afternoon President Bush congratulated the WNBA 2005 National Champion, Sacramento Monarchs at a ceremony in the East Garden of the White House, where he accepted a shirt and championship ring.
There has never been a greater need for Sanity on Free Republic so WELCOME to the Daily Dose! Lots of great pictures today............Enjoy!
Looks like there might be a little bit of an age difference between Rupert Murdoch and his wife Wendi.
I missed that you were moving, hope it went as smoothly as something like that does. Welcome to you new home
CONGRATULATIONS on producing an absolutely awesome DOSE last evening . . . I read it this morning and just marveled at the quality of both the analysis and (interpersonal) interaction -- what a refreshing contrast to the 'madness' that has consumed the rest of FR!!!
BTW: I was soooooooooooooooooo proud of our President last evening! Standing on principle and conviction, he outlined a reasoned, rational 5-point plan that could actually solve the problem -- UNLIKE his predecessors (including Ronald Reagan) who just 'kicked the can down the road' to the next president until Dubya (who is now having to deal with an almost unbearable number of 'cans' simultaneously)!!
JOHN PODHORETZ offers an excellent analysis at
http://www.nypost.com/postopinion/opedcolumnists/68556.htm
Podhoretz' prediction seems validated by CNN's snap poll:
79% reacted favorably to the speech
18% disliked it (this would include the rightwing's unappeasable pundits)
This reaction included a +36 point change in opinion pre and post speech:
Before speech --
42% supported the President's position 38% did not (+4)
After the speech --
67% supported the President's position 27% did not (+40)
This latter finding proves once again that when the public actually gets to see the president and hear what he has to say, UNFILTERED, they LIKE both him and his message . . . which makes the following ratings even more important:

TV RATINGS FOR BUSH HIGHER THAN LAST WEEK'S PROGRAMMING ON ABC, FOX

YOU WILL FIND LOTS OF GREAT VIDEO AT THE FOLLOWING WHITE HOUSE LINK -- I strongly encourage you to watch the beginning of the President's speech at the Peace Officers' Memorial Service (5/15/06). . . the President has the heart of a preacher!:

***Gorgeous gown!***
Perfect gown on a perfect First Lady.
What fun photos
As you know, the White House is having a "Black Tie" Dinner for Australian Prime Minister John Howard and his wife. If you remember there was a bit of a stink made of the way President Bush honored China's leader Hu Jintao back on April 20th, Hu Jintao was given a formal Luncheon despite the fact that the Chinese wanted a formal State Dinner.
Well!!! today C_span is replaying the April 20th Ceremony when Hu Jintao arrived back on April 20th, 2006.... Does anybody think this wasn't done on purpose ???
I watched the Peace officers video late last night and I agree, Our President has a heart of gold
They look like a bunch of ill behaved children or worse.
Laura has dignity, as well as beauty... (Plus she looks younger as time goes by!)
LOL! This is PERFECT, Deb! Dealing with all the dented cans of his predecessor(s)...........tackling problems that everyone else hoped would go away.
And I LOVE that only 18% didn't like his speech last night! EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM was on FR last night!!
I've been laying low lately and havn't been posting much, but I have decided that I will end that nonsense. I'm gonna be confronting the pouting pitchforkers with guns a blazing from now on
Love the photo of Rummy as usual pointing at the media.
"I'm surprised they're not showing tapes of Hillary showing off the china instead."
LOL!!!
At least they plan to re-broadcast the following:
--the TONY SNOW show at 9:44 PM EDT (C-Span)
--the WELCOMING CEREMONY for John Howard at 11:45 PM EDT (C-Span2) . . . although C-Span manages to diss the President any way by identifying his father (H.W.) as the president!

I'm off to take a late walk -- it finally stopped raining -- will return within the hour.
I think Laura Bush is the prettiest First Lady ever, IMHO she has it all, and George W. Bush is very fortunate that he attended that BBQ 25 years ago, where he met Laura Welch
These pictures are great.
I watched Tony Snow's first Presser tonight, just before I posted here, and I think he did a fantastic job!
It certainly could have gone worse!!! I am still somewhat in process - going back to the old place for straggling stuff and getting it all cleaned and stuff. The worst was that I couldn't find my pots to cook my green beans on Saturday night (for Mother's Day dinner with family) and my hairdryer. My phone quit making sound of any kind. I missed church on Sunday morning, but ended up having a nice Mother's Day with family and unpacking a slew of boxes! All is becoming normal (for me) quickly!!!
And I was finally able to buy a piano!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the welcome. My life is abundant!!
If that isn't the truth, Truth doesn't exist :-)
"President George W. Bush and Australia's Prime Minister John Howard share a toast prior to an official dinner at the White House in Washington, May 16. Earlier in the day Bush told Howard, 'The American people know that Australia is a strong ally. We admire your courage, and we appreciate your sacrifice.' Also pictured is the wife of the prime minister, Janette Howard."
(What a great evening!)
