You are soo full crap its not funny. Over 70% of our american makup came in the imigration waves after the Civil War with the Homestead Act that opened the Western Territories to settlements. This brought waves if immigrants from all parts of Europe and Russia to the US forcing the creation of our current immigration laws and the building of the gateway to the US at Rickers Island in NY. Time you read your history, pal!
The current wave of illegals shatters all past numbers for immigration.
That is very much disputed. Demographer Campbell Gibson calculated that 49% of the 1990 population could be attributed to the original settlers. They had extremely high reproduction rates at first. Think about it--large parts of the US like the South still have a clear connection to the settlers. On top of that, the foreign born have rarely had more than 10% of the population, and they have only come in spurts because there have been substantial periods of immigration restriction like 1924 to the 1960's.

It was CASTLE GARDEN, which was situated at the lower end of Manhattan, near Battery Park.
The Irish and Germans came here in waves, beginning in the 1840s. There was a second wave, in the late 1870s/early 1880s. The full bore blast, however, came in the first two 1/2 decades of the 20th century, when Ellis Island was opened.
Before you yell at others, you could at least get the facts correct!
"...and the building of the gateway to the US at Rickers Island in Ny. Time you read your history pal!"
Stop, before you make a complete ass of yourself. I don't think too many immigrants came through Riker's Island. If they did, I am certain they got a oneway ticket back home.
Its ELLIS ISLAND. Obviously you went to a publick skool.
It is Rikers Island and it has been used as a jail since 1884.
