May 15, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - In his live, nationally televised address tonight, President Bush will tell Americans that it's impossible to deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens living here.
"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.
She said Bush plans to spell out his vision for sealing the border, enforcing the law, and "creating a rational system for workers to come into our country and to do jobs Americans won't do." Bush plans to visit the U.S.-Mexican border this week, and will dispatch his Cabinet to help sell the immigration plan.
The Senate plans to return to the contentious issue this week now that Republicans and Democrats have a deal to plow through controversial amendments. But the House and Senate are far apart on whether to put illegals on a path to citizenship.
Tamburri said Bush would call for "better equipment, increased funding, and advanced technology" to secure the border.
She didn't confirm press reports that Bush wants to expand deployments of National Guard Troops to step up border enforcement. Some Guard troops are already deployed in Arizona and New Mexico, but Bush is considering a big increase.
White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said that enforcement was the Border Patrol's job - but then asked whether they needed help from the Guard on an "interim basis."
"This is not about militarizing the border," he said. The president is looking to do everything he can to secure the border. It's what the American people want."

I totally agree!
Why are you against an italian named Tancredo trying to legislate an immigration policy that puts Americans first? Do you hate WOPs and guineas? Why do you ignore his 100% "Best and Brightest" rating from the American Conservative Union and the fact that he is a conservative Republican? Why all the "ethnic animus"?
I never said there wasn't a problem on the border
I just said .. read up on the laws concerning the military
While you may be correct, I find it interesting that I never seem to actually talk to those moderate people. Some of the most strident and angry people on this issue (that I personally know) are my liberal democrat friends.

Real intelligent answer. I suppose you have the ultimate solution to rid a group of people 4 times the size of LA?
The employer thing may work to an extent but even then you've got to catch them first and the future even without a job here is better in most cases than with a job there.
Yes, we can boot 11M illegal thieves.
That's for people attempting to cross the border who are caught, not people who are already inland.
We NEVER heard Dems criticize Clinton.
>build a wall and seriously penalize employers<
Employers are being seriously penelazed now. Most employers have documentation for every employee. They can not verify the documentation is legit.
They said drones MAY be deployed along the border. Great! But how many? The reports stated the NG's primary job would be to take up the paperwork positions so more border patrolmen can be freed up. But the border patrols still will be so greatly understaffed that illegals will, for the most part, walk right through.
Yes, we can. Please attach fiscal note.
Why do you keep saying that like it matters? Are you saying that Tom Tancredo's votes are affected in some way by his career choices? If it was negatively affected, then he would not have earned a 100% "Best and Brightest" rating from the American Conservative Union. Your argument is completely baseless and you wouldn't look so stupid if you would drop it.
You mean that angry voters will vote against Tom Tancredo?
Are you as sick and tired as I am of having our congress and president care more about the illegal alliens than they do us? How long do you think it'll take them to realize that illegals (allegedly) can't vote? Why am I getting the feeling that the next election will be flooded with illegals who vote, are contested, but nothing will be done about it?
Can we please not use the serious issue of Illegal border jumpers to push the liberatarian platform on drugs?
The border is a few miles south of here. They round them up and haul them back to border when they're caught hundreds of miles north of it. I know where the border is. These people are not caught "attempting to cross the border" - they've alread crossed it and are miles inland.
Also, I was not aware that our federal laws changed from state to state.
Next excuse?

We'll need the Mod squad.
