May 15, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - In his live, nationally televised address tonight, President Bush will tell Americans that it's impossible to deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens living here.

"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.

She said Bush plans to spell out his vision for sealing the border, enforcing the law, and "creating a rational system for workers to come into our country and to do jobs Americans won't do." Bush plans to visit the U.S.-Mexican border this week, and will dispatch his Cabinet to help sell the immigration plan.

The Senate plans to return to the contentious issue this week now that Republicans and Democrats have a deal to plow through controversial amendments. But the House and Senate are far apart on whether to put illegals on a path to citizenship.

Tamburri said Bush would call for "better equipment, increased funding, and advanced technology" to secure the border.

She didn't confirm press reports that Bush wants to expand deployments of National Guard Troops to step up border enforcement. Some Guard troops are already deployed in Arizona and New Mexico, but Bush is considering a big increase.

White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said that enforcement was the Border Patrol's job - but then asked whether they needed help from the Guard on an "interim basis."

"This is not about militarizing the border," he said. The president is looking to do everything he can to secure the border. It's what the American people want."

You are right and if these two very corrupt political parties had just went about treating illegals who break the law with the same energy they treat their own citizens who break the laws that you mentioned, we would not be in the mess that we are in.

I think the American population would be thrilled with a 5 year deportation plan for illegals. Self deport back to Mexico and this gov. will give you $1000. Fail to register for deportation within 1 year and be fined. Fail to do so and at the end of five years forfeit your property to the government.

These are simple solutions.

To actually go out and attempt to boot the 11-12-15-18 whatever million illegals is not going to work. To effectively accomplish that mission there would have to be an expansion of government so vast that the police state that many on FR fear will become a reality.

I am agaist this illegal alien onslaught into our country. But lets set that aside for a moment and speak only of logistics...

If there are 11 million illegal aliens in this country how specifically/logistically can they be removed?

How many soldiers did it take to move in to take Iraq? Less that 500,000? ( I could be wrong) Plus all of their equipment, food, shelter etc.

Now People just use the words "round em up" Okay and then what? Put them in camps? And feed house and clothes them before you figure out where and how they should go?

Now come up with a program to assimilate those that are here, quit wasting time talking about deportation. You know why? Because Mexico can just easily stop a bus at the border and refuse it entry or refuse a plane landing rights of returning illegals. You are not going to just get on horses and herd them back over the border. It is time for reality.

Look there is a problem, Bitching is not going to solve it. And like it or not, they are here to stay. Now throw the people out of office that caused the problem, but the US is not going to drag women and children out of homes "that doesnt make for good press" So we need to create a program to assimilate them as quickly as possible but first those that followed the rules and have been waiting for years to be citizens need to be fast tracked ( as safely as possible) so that we do not legalize those that broke the rules before those that followed them.

Pure bs about jobs Americans won't do. Here in Houston, we are rebuilding a lot of freeways and highways. I don't see many people that are not hispanic doing this job. It's mostly about low pay.

My question is if these people become citizens; won't their pay increase; then what will happen?

The majority of illegals are no longer working as nannies, pickers or cooks anymore. They are working construction, truck driving and the building trades. Oh yeah, those are jobs "americans won't do". What's the matter with all of you supporters of this idea? If the border were clamped and the illegals went away would you have to pay YOUR new workers more and pay any benefits yourself instead of letting the rest of the taxpayers do it? No better than the democraps when it comes to redistributing the taxpayers money.
