May 15, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - In his live, nationally televised address tonight, President Bush will tell Americans that it's impossible to deport the estimated 11 million illegal aliens living here.
"We must reject amnesty, but recognize that it is not realistic to round up millions of people and send them home," said White House spokeswoman Maria Tamburri in a preview of Bush's speech.
She said Bush plans to spell out his vision for sealing the border, enforcing the law, and "creating a rational system for workers to come into our country and to do jobs Americans won't do." Bush plans to visit the U.S.-Mexican border this week, and will dispatch his Cabinet to help sell the immigration plan.
The Senate plans to return to the contentious issue this week now that Republicans and Democrats have a deal to plow through controversial amendments. But the House and Senate are far apart on whether to put illegals on a path to citizenship.
Tamburri said Bush would call for "better equipment, increased funding, and advanced technology" to secure the border.
She didn't confirm press reports that Bush wants to expand deployments of National Guard Troops to step up border enforcement. Some Guard troops are already deployed in Arizona and New Mexico, but Bush is considering a big increase.
White House National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley said that enforcement was the Border Patrol's job - but then asked whether they needed help from the Guard on an "interim basis."
"This is not about militarizing the border," he said. The president is looking to do everything he can to secure the border. It's what the American people want."

There's a method to Ted's madness. The left has been busy aborting or otherwise avoiding the rearing of its next generation of voters for 30 years. Gay marriage, being sterile, similarly won't up Democrat numbers any. The solution is to import a new Democrat victim and entitlement class to shore up their numbers.
We could boot them out...but the concern is one of violent open warfare on the streets. The political class does not have the stomach right now to deal with the violence that certainly would occur....the Mexicans will fight!
Good job, creating a PERFECT new word!
Because GWB and Kennedy are no different. They are cut of the same cloth and only say a few different things to fool us.
Seriously, how are they different?
or to rebuild New Orleans. Heck even Katrina evacuaees refuse to take $20 an hour jobs to rebuild their former home.
Which is, of course, BS. Cut off their free medical care, free school, and other government welfare benefits and most of the illegals will leave under their own power.
We can't bust all of the criminals in America. It isn't realistic. Why don't we ignore all of our laws and give them all amnesty?
Republicans are doing the same thing as DUMs. Find a moronic talking point and repeat it ad nauseum in the belief that it will become truth via repetition.
Americans will do these jobs. They just don't want to do them for the slave wages and (often) illegal working conditions that illegals do them for. Illegals depress wages to below market levels. The labor market is self correcting.
The cost of paying LEGAL US citizens to do these jobs is less than the costs of having these ILLEGALS in the country.
If we hear this in the speech, this is NOT good news.
This is not the Republican party anymore. They are all the freakin' same.
If any legislation containing a 'guest worker program' or a 'temporary worker program' or 'a path to citizenship' passes, the Republicans will soon lose the majority in both Houses, and might lose the White House in 2008.
It's that simple.
He might, but I believe he will if and only if the people put him there. I doubt he will seek the office on his own.
Scary...but sadly the future is being wrought by the enemy within.
There are viable solutions, and in fact at least one post on this thread has already mentioned them. I'm not going to repeat what was said.
susie
For cryin out loud!
He's been saying this since 1999.
Amen to that.
I've been called so many names on this site because I'm disgusted with Jorge on this issue.
I've sent voter registration card to Mr. Presidente and told him I won't need it any more as I've changed my party affiliation to Constitution Party.
I think it would be a real eye opener to have 4 Presidential candidates in 2008. I'm not voting for a RINO again.
" I can't find a notarized copy of my birth certificate or my passport. I'd have to order one... Until I order it, how do I prove I'm legal?"
Yeah, they wouldn't accept my hospital birth certificate for a passport. I had to get a state copy and the huge problem was my mother's maiden name which is spelled three different ways. I have been using a name for years that doesn't exist...
Go figure..
I finally got one with a name that seems to fit the records. I guess I should have just attempted to cross a border because no one is looking anyway.
If Snow's sole purpose of joining Bush's team was to just toe the company line, and not really add any input, he should respectfully resign, and go back to talk radio, where he CAN add value.
My kids need summer work and could do farm jobs if the migrants weren't around to displace them....many teens need part time work but can't find the work because of the illegals. What about those "Americans"!
His job is not to say "I can't." His job is to execute the laws enacted by Congress and signed into law by himself or previous Presidents. Picking and choosing which laws he, the executive, is going to enforce is a dereliction of duty and malfeasance. The laws on the books right now are that those who employ illegal aliens are to be charged with a felony and appropriately punished. It also gives only one penalty for illegal immigration and that is deportation. Why does President Bush steadfastly refuse to do his job?
