Film star and director Mel Gibson has launched a scathing attack on US President George W Bush, comparing his leadership to the barbaric rulers of the Mayan civilisation in his new film Apocalypto.
The epic, due for release later this year, captures the decline of the Maya kingdom and the slaughter of thousands of inhabitants as human sacrifices in a bid to save the nation from collapsing.
Gibson reveals he used present day American politics as an inspiration, claiming the government callously plays on the nation's insecurities to maintain power.
He tells British film magazine Hotdog, "The fear-mongering we depict in the film reminds me of President Bush and his guys".
I have a bit of hard time taking the rouse of security serioiusly when the borders remain open. Keep the borders wide open so that we can all suffer the attemps at securing the aftermath. Does not sound reasonable to me. The number one thing that needs to be done in the name of security is that the borders have to be sealed to illegals. Chances are that if a nuke comes into the united states via a terroist then it is going to be carried by someone illegal sneaking it across the border.
Yeah, but he was great as Detective Ribbs in the Lethal Weapon films....
In politics, fear mongering works better than accusations of fear mongering. The former is offensive. The latter is defensive.
The Republicans have national security, but as has been observed, memories are getting weak. Thus, Repubs need to find a secondary, back-up issue. I suggest the old tried and true: Taxes. They can begin hammering a two pronged point that always works. (1) The economy is roaring. (2) If you elect the Dems, they will raise your personal taxes and the economy wll tank.
Diplomatic Immunity...!!!
"Hey Moe!"
That's because Spell Checker does not know how to have a good time. Like Grammar Checker, its entire mission in life seems to be to find fault, point out other's mistakes and short-comings, and asume a quiet sense of random superiooty over others while conviently ignoring its own mistakes and shortcomings.
Avoid Speel Checker.
Anne Coulter's jumping-the-shark moment with Intelligent Design/Creationism.
It may fit with the mini-series on Iraq.

Mel Gibson Says Peace Out
Gibson and his Icon Prods. will be producing a six-part mini set during the Iraq War for the USA Network. By Dennis Michael
USA Cable Network has plans in place for the fall season. Daily Variety reports USA made its upfront presentation in New York this week to reveal its programming plans to advertisers, and the presentation was one of the network's most ambitious ever.
One event is from Mel Gibson's Icon Productions, a six-hour miniseries to be called Peace Out, a M*A*S*H-like dark comedy set in the Iraq War.
The network also has two reality shows in the works set to spin-off from the network's very popular World Wrestling Entertainment programs.
