I'm back (I have to catch up on all your posts), but in the meantime - now you are COMPLAINING about illegals we actually "caught at the border who never even made it in"?! Talk about moving the goalposts!

What's so sad about that is that you and I have posted to and from each other on other threads (UNC SUV and Duke LAX) and gotten along fine (or so I thought.)

That is exactly why I was trying to avoid getting crosswise of you in these Bush/immigration threads.

Clearly you are passionate about them, as am I.

Our little local news will fade and there we are, very much opposed. Sorry.

Anyway, you know it wasn't that bad. People call you a Bush-Bot all the time. Do you really think that you don't deserve to be ridiculed a little for taking the pose of being all worried that "People aren't posting because they don't want to be drilled and mocked for their opinions anymore."

Come on, buck up! You're a serious, gutter-fighting pajama monkey. This ain't nothing. You should be loving this cause I got all this egg on my face.

How much of a recession are you willing to allow in order to rid the U.S. of every illegal alien?

If we stop the flood of illegals, enforce the laws on employment of illegals and don't grant a blanket amnesty the problem will diminish over time. WE can then rationally and reasonable decide, who we want to stay and who should leave. It's all just balloon juice till we stop the bleeding at the border.

Why would it be unmanned? In my opinion if there was a major fence on the border then Border Patrol could concentrate their efforts on the fence itself as opposed to being scattered all over the place as they are now. The fence would have regular patrols and the exact location of the border would be obvious to those on both sides. The fence in Israel seems to be working great.

Are you aware that right at this moment in time most of the Mexican border is fenced with a fallen down barbwire range fence, and that in places there is no fence at all?

I think we could reasonably deport 10 million, but at what cost?

By the way the real number is closer to 20 million.

I've got a question for anyone here - when Bush, McCain, Reid, Kennedy, etc, etc, etc says we "can't possibly deport 11 or 13 million illegal immigrants", why hasn't any media type or talking head responded "Well, how many CAN we deport then?"????

That is not an unreasonable conclusion. It would take federalizing every police force plus troops to round up that many people spread across the country. It would be defacto martial law. As much as people say they want the illegals to leave this country would not stand for pictures we saw with that Cuban kid multiplied by several million every night. No it really is unreasonable to think that could happen.

Lots of us want serious discussion of this, and we can't get it because of the hate........yes, hate, for the President and for those of us who respect him.

What more serious discussion do you need? It's all out there to see.

Some want amnesty... Some want the border protected (and want to hold Bush accountable for his inaction)... Some want open borders.... Some want to reward illegals with citizenship.... Some want a combination of those things.

What's left to "seriously discuss"?

Until Bush actually does something about it what else do we have, on this forum, other than debate. Just because people don't capitulate to your point of view doesn't translate into hate.

I don't think people hate me because they disagree. Let them disagree all they want. It's their right. But, disagreement about illegals and the border is the same as declaring the Constitution a living document. There really is no debate about the fact that Bush has not met his Constitutional duty regarding our border.

If a dem president were shirking his oath to the Constitution in this way you guys would be scraming "Impeach" rather than wanting to have a "serious discussion" about it. Hypocritical? I think so.

"Comprehensive reform" to me is the same as serious discussion. It simply means that you want those of us who want illegals to be deported and treated as criminals to come around to your way of thinking. Why should we? We believe in the sanctity of our borders from all invaders. You seem to want to talk about it until it's too late. (It may be already)

You probably interpret my post about Bush's speech as hate, too. It's not. It's information to some FReepers that may have not seen it. It gives them an idea where Bush's position is on this issue.

Don't you get it? He sees bi-lingualism and multi-culturalism as good thing. I don't. If he was saying that about any other ethnicity I would be saying the same thing.

This thread is about illegals and people are going to trash him on that. If you can't take it don't read them.

Is this a joke? I hope not. I imagine Bill O' Reilly, naturally, will take credit for it.

Ok. Tell me your strategy for identifying 8 million people across the country and deporting them. Only about a third stay in the border states.

The answer is DAMN FEW!!! The folks who readily are "deported" (rather than exercising "appeal rights" which rival those of convicted criminals and tie up the courts for years) accept "voluntary departure"!

In fact, "Catch & Release" actions merely involve illegal aliens who opt for "voluntary departure" and then disappear into the woodwork! This "battle" was lost LONG, LONG AGO and has landed on Bush's doorstep! He has reached ZERO CREDIBILITY on many issues..., immigration is just one of many!

Bash away..., I voted for him twice and would do so again because he represented the LESSER OF THE EVILS!!!

Tammy8, a couple of hours ago Williams put up one of the posts with the opinion that catching illegals [crossing the existing border, as I took it] was a good deterrent and a hardened border was therefore not needed.

I posted back politely and, in a reasoned way, asking if those captured by the BP wouldn't just immediately try again to cross.

I have not seen a reply.

Or, to draw a comparison, does the fact that the IRS doesn't have the resources to investigate and prosecute every taxpayer who cheats on his/her taxes (or even just those who fail to file) cause you to draw the conclusion that they shouldn't investigate and prosecute ANY of them?

Local law enforcement agencies in every location in this country do not have the resources to catch and prosecute all burglary perpetrators. Is that sufficient reason to stop all attempts to prosecute any of them?

The list goes on. The administration, aided by Kennedy, McCain, et al, is guilty of extremely faulty reasoning in this case.
