He does somthing = Dont listen to it. Its a token gesture. Do people want somthing done or do they just want to complain?

No, it's because people want something EFFECTIVE done. If he had proposed a wall with a definite timeline then you would see a totally different response.

The latter for many. Some of these folks will be disappointed if the President hears the message and acts. They'll have to be mad at somebody else.

You can tell who is who on this thread.........who really cares about getting something done, and who just wants to gripe.

Somehow I doubt that Bush has totally reversed his position on immigration. I fear that this will be some deal like 3 border guards covering 2,000 miles of border as an attempt to appease those of us who don't want to give our country to Mexicans. I hope I'm wrong and Bush has somehow changed his mind.

Now, how about DEPORTING ILLEGALS?

One step at a time...and the most important one first: Stopping the existing problem from getting any worse.

Plug the hole in boat, then start bailing it out. And by the way, the bailing it out part is going to be very problematic.

Again, first things first.

Why do these people not lay any of the blame on them?

Because they don't want to take responsibility for what their states did

It's easier to blame Bush

A lot of the people that you say are "griping" DO care about getting something done. They're not about to give the President a pass just because he pretends to be doing something, or does something ineffective just to try to shut up his critics or placate the more gullible members of the Republican base. They want something REALLY to be done. Actions, not just words.

Indeed. I believe that most would even accept some sort of earned amnesty after the wall was built and the border secure.

Without a wall, no other measure is going to be effective or accepted.

well you are wrong, because border security and immigration are under FEDERAL JURISDICTION.

and if you don't have the stones to admit when you're wrong then thats YOUR PROBLEM.

Kelly another one. Personally I see the opposite as being the case.

Take a break pal. When you're in my league as an economic analyst, I'll let you know.

When other people are telling you how smart you are, that's when you can start lecturing me. Until then, pipe down son.

Speaking for myself, I have lost the respect I've had for the President over this issue. I don't hate him. I think he's a good man, but his obvious inaction in securing our borders, and his constant deference towards Vicente Fox and the illegals are infuriating to those of us who'd like to retain American sovereignty and the rule of law.

He has been a disaster on immigration, in my opinion, and that could destroy us.

It's easier to blame [President] Bush

I refer you to Post #104. Now, who is to blame for the documented lack of enforcement during the Bush administration? Where, exactly, does the buck stop in the executive branch? The laws are there. Who is at fault for them not being enforced?

So all those STATES giving drivers licenses and other benefits to illegals is just an illusion?

Under the Civil War-era Posse Comitatus Act, federal troops are prohibited from performing law enforcement actions, such as making arrests, seizing property or searching people.

is the stupidest argument against guarding the border. The troops are not needed for law enforcement, searches or making arrests. They are for guarding the border.

They are for keeping people from crossing the line into the U.S. - before they get in and Posse Comitatus starts to apply.

Me and a lot of other voters. People aren't dumb - they know what methods are effective and which ones aren't. Patrols are only as good as the desire of those in charge - a wall works 24 hours a day.

You do know that a wall to keep people out can also be used to keep people in don't you?
