Waaaah, quick someone change his diaper.
Hasta la Vista @##*&*&#@!!!
A bunch of professors seem in dire need for First Amendment "sensitivity training".
If Rice were not a public figure, and perhaps even though she is, this is called "Defamation of Character". The response should be "Prove it in court". You must prove the statements made were contrary to fact, and that the person making them knew that they were contrary to fact.
Good luck sucka!
Ditto to all the posts so far but I am touched by Mr. Almond's concern for the "impressionable" seniors who might be exposed to Dr. Rice's speech. Frankly, if they are as impressionable as Mr. Almond thinks they are, then clearly the BC faculty members aren't doing much of a job to prepare their students for the real world outside academia. Don't they realize these kids will no longer be protected from the big, bad world of conflicting world visions? Are these kids ready to face a nation of more than half conservatives? Shame on Mr. Almond and his ilk! (Of course, maybe they just hope the little shell-shocked graduates will slink back to get higher degrees and spend a few more years in the liberal cocoon while supporting the faculty in their cloistered kingdom.)
meanwhile from Bloggers and Personals, a BC Sociology prof.
thinks Rice will be charged with war crimes.

The Party of tolerance strikes again.
i wonder if the professor would have resigned if William J. Clinton were invited to speak at the commencement ceremony... he is a known liar... i doubt it...
I hope someone sends this letter to Pope Benedict XV. Since "humanistic values" and Catholic values are incompatible, it would seem that Mr. Nut (that's what an Almond is, isn't it?) should be banned from teaching at any Catholic university as those universities are required to insist that faculty members do not take anti-Catholic positions.
I hope this catches on. More colleges and universities need to invite Bush administration people. I'd like to see them invite VP Cheney. They could wipe out their entire staff in one sweep. This is a good thing.
If I were a liberal and this guy was a Republican, I would call him a "Racist". (and get away with it)
Nice to see he listens to Republicans when they speak. Apparently, he wasn't listening when the members of his favorite socialist party in Washington were making the same case against Iraq but were to afraid to take care of it.
I heard there are a few openings for thoughtful speakers like Steve in Cuba.
See ya!
well, steve, don't let the door hit your @ss on the way out.
One down, thousands to go.
Has given a speech in the House or Senate yet?

However, Boston College's Steve Almond has conspicuously failed to show the appropriate gratitude for Condi's willingness to speak at his college. On the contrary, he has publicly indulged in petulant indignation that anyone not sharing his juvenile political views should be allowed to speak at BC.
Almond wrote a childish open letter to the college's President, in which he resigned his lofty position as adjunct English professor and called upon students to disrupt Dr. Rice's speech. Drawing on a partisan report (PDF) prepared by staff members for liberal Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA), Almond rudely calls Condi a liar and proclaims that he has no choice but to quit his job the "adult" equivalent of trying to hold your breath until you turn blue.
It doesn't seem Almond will be missed much at BC. He received a lousy 2.8 on a scale of 5.0 at RateMyProfessors.com, and that was inflated by his "Easiness" score.
