As a seasoned political observer with more than two decades of experience analyzing voting patterns and the like, I would now like to explain to you one of the greatest mysteries in the history of balloting - a mystery so profound that people have sobbed and scratched their heads, gasped and cried out in anger, and insisted they would never again participate in the voting process.
Am I talking about the Florida election in 2000? The 1984 controversy over the victor in the race for Indiana's Eighth Congressional District? The race for president in 1876?
No, I'm talking about the elimination on Wednesday night of rocker Chris Daughtry from the list of contenders for the title of "American Idol."...
How could this happen?...
If you want to understand "Idol," you need to understand American politics. And if you want to understand the workings of American politics, "Idol" isn't a bad introduction to the way political coalitions are formed and elections are won....

The ego hasnt landed.
American Idol castoff Chris Daughtry thinks voter laziness, not lousy vocals, got him booted from the Fox talent show Wednesday night.
You know what, maybe people thought I was safe and didnt vote as much, said the 26-year-old rocker in a conference call yesterday.
Considered a favorite to win among the judges, bloggers and even online betting sites, the wannabe star said he tried to block the hype out the best he could.
But it looks as though it didnt work.
When everyone is telling you you are going to win, its a real blow, he said. (It was) very gut-wrenching the way it happened. I thought (Ryan Seacrest) was building it up that people thought I was going home or say Chris, you are going home tomorrow . . . on a private jet to your hometown. I thought he was just kidding. I was not expecting that, not even a little.
But the pompous performer does expect a flood of opportunities, including a deal with the band Fuel.
I cant really talk about (offers), he said. Some are lined up. Ive got to feel out all offers and whats right for me. I have to take everything into consideration and be careful. I dont want to make a rash decision. (But) Im a songwriter myself and to be able to launch my own career is my dream.
Thanks AVP
I liked Chris, and look forward to the progression of his career. Win or lose, if you do well on Idol the exposure to a mass audience and potential record producers is more than most could dream of in a lifetime.
Taylor and Chris had bands to my knowledge and would have remained bar singers without this opportunity. Even those who were kicked off prior to Chris realize what a great opportunity it was to be on a national stage. Good luck to all of them.
And you think Taylor is not fat? He has three spare tires around his middle. He should have gotten in better shape!
Gee, and I thought he lost because he sucks.
Taylor is going to win. He's got personality, stage presence and is hugely marketable. Chris will be an excellent lead vocalist for a rock band and McPhee will definitely excel as well.
Just my two cents...
Taylor is a dude! You can judge him! LOL
"seems to be more wholesome "
Except for a couple of numbers and 'dancing' Paris did, it was. I had to switch the channel on one of her songs.
thats not a nice shape... :[
Exactly the flaw in the voting system I see.
I think Chris lost because of complacency. Everyone assumed he was going to be a fnalist and a lot of people voted for who they wanted to face him in the finals. The problem is that under the voting system, Chris still needed those votes.
Earth to Idol fans: IT'S A TV SHOW. IT'S RIGGED!
It's been hard for me to take him seriously ever since.
@@@@
He is doing a book tour of talk shows, and inserts "you know" about 3 times in each sentence he utters. He may be a writer, but he is definitely not a public speaker.
I can't take him at all. It seems to me that the NRO crowd have gelled into some kind of "how can we show our superiority to Bush today" playground clique.
I don't know, all you gave us was that gorgeous wedding picture to go by.
I didn't notice the beer belly, but then I'm a woman so I'm likely to notice only a girl's pretty eyes and hair.
It's worth noting, though, that the camera puts at least ten pounds on a person. I don't know why this happens but it does. Doubtless Katherine in nowhere near as heavy in real life as she appears on the air.
AI/19 Entertainment own the finalists (top 12) for a year, with (I think) option on each to pay $1M to make it three years. The winner is guaranteed an album (and none of the other 11 can release an album before then), and a larger up-front payment. The others will likely be allowed to record on other labels if 19E doesn't want to, as long as 19E gets a cut.
It was the glasses, stupid. (No, I'm not calling you "stupid," it's just a play on the Carville thing.)
As soon as that egghead came out with those big Elvis glasses, my wife said "he just lost." I agreed. The lighting put weird shadows all over the sides of his bald head. He looked like an alien!
KAT RULES!
Taylor makes me want to puke... He really needs to get that tourettes checked out.
Chris got booted because he sounds the same..no matter the song. He is just like 100,00 other 'garage band' singers.
