He's using a logic trap on you, Warthog. I think it's called a faulty dilemma. I might have the name wrong, but it essentially boils down to giving you only two choices without presenting a middle ground. Just because you want the laws enforced doesn't mean every single illegal must be rounded up and deported. That would be logistically very, very difficult to say the least. But he doesn't give you any other choice than surrender (amnesty). That ignores a variety of middle options. For example, better enforcement, like fines on employers, could have an impact by reducing the jobs available for illegals.
I always love the argument that a wall is hopeless because it can't stop 100%. Well, if we had to have 100% success before doing something, we'd never do anything.
Prohibition was not rational either - there are plenty of laws that are not "rational" - it is IMPOSSIBLE to round up every illegal alien and deport them.
