Senators agree on 'amnesty' proposal
The Washington Times ^ | May 12, 2006 | Charles Hurt

Senate leaders reached an agreement yesterday on immigration reform legislation that would strengthen border security but also would allow millions of illegal aliens who have been in the U.S. for two years or longer to apply for citizenship. Derided by conservatives as "amnesty," the proposal could be amended but senators on both sides of the aisle say they doubt it will be dramatically altered. "Senate Republicans are united in their commitment to an open and full debate on multiple amendments," said a statement from seven Republicans who represent the full spectrum of positions on immigration reform. "We are willing to put differences aside so we can get on with the important work to be done securing our borders and grappling with the 12 million illegal immigrants currently living in our country," said the group that included Majority Leader Bill Frist of Tennessee, Sen. John McCain of Arizona and Sen. John Cornyn of Texas. "We are also in agreement that efforts to curtail the debate prematurely will only derail this process. We call on Senate Democrats to allow an open debate and votes on this complex and challenging issue," the statement read. Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, with whom Mr. Frist has been negotiating for weeks, said he "welcomed" the return of the thorny bill to the floor.

Over 6 million illegal aliens have been expelled from the U.S. since Bush took office - how many more would be enough for you?

All of them! Enough to where I go to town to shop I don't see several dozen. BTW I'm not on a border state. They're coming in much faster than they are leaving and W's amnesty hints as well as Spineless Frist are by no means helping matters at all.

Certainly proves that angry psychosis (44 Dems) is a far better unifying force than cowardise (55 Repubs).

Yes - I understand the "checkmate" post now (usually the person who wins the chess game says that, so that's why I was confused). I'm still confused as to why you think I am trashing Reagan - I was defending him. YOU were the one who claimed that "Amnesty leads to socialism" - and since Reagan signed amnesty, I asked if you thought Reagan was a Socialist. It was a question, not a statement. No "twisted" logic there at all.

I remember my relatives telling me how the Republican party said that Coburn was too radical to be a senator.

That Coburn would bring disgrace on the party with his tough stands.

Well if what he has done so far brings disgrace on the Party then we damn well need more of this kind of disgrace.

I would vote and hope that Coburn would consider a run for higher office.

No skin off my nose - I already knew your position on sealing the border, rounding up every illegal alien and deporting them - I am only interested in discussing the issue with rational people.

Fair question however it was stated as a fact rather than a question.

So the word association was a stretch at best.

"Claimed" amnesty =socialism, claimed? You give me to much credit.

In my word association game the illegals are socialists giving them amnesty will promote socialism the liberals support giving them amnesty therefore amnesty will spread socialism. Therefore Amnesty spreads socialism.

Yes while it is true our greatest President ever did pass amnesty way back in the 80's, word association again, he was a Republican AND at that time liberals were not as active in spreading socialism I am certain he never equated socialism with amnesty in fact he was responsible for toppling communism, he came from a totally different era.

So I am certain he was given intelligence, advice and so forth to allow him to believe that it would be a good thing for the country again at that time in the 80's.

So therefore I never would have seen any word association Reagan, amnesty, socialism....see? BUT you did! One must take pause and say hmmmm.

I see my question was missing a beginning quotation mark before the word - but there was a QUESTION mark - I'm glad we cleared it up at least. I had no idea what "master of disguise" was supposed to mean either ; )

You know, the RINOs might indeed be hoping to win the Hispanic vote (replacing you in the voting booth) by an amnesty. Nevertheless, if you go third party you are only making your vote more irrelevant. Get with other conservatives in your state and attempt to take the Republican Party back if you don't already have a good, conservative team in place. Tom Tancredo, for example, is already on our side. Do your best to give him some allies.

I never said that I was giving up the fight. I simply said that we won't vote Republican this election cycle if the Repulicrats push through amnesty. My wife and I are both working very hard to get CONSERVATIVE Republicans elected to office. No more voting for "the lesser of two evils"!

Don't stay at home and don't by that stupid lesser of two evils,or the old waisting your vote if you vote third party.

Don't worry. We'll be voting...IF...there is a righteous man running for the office we are voting for. If the Republicrats push through amnesty then their righteousness goes out the window...
