Murtha Predicts U.S. Pullout From Iraq
By KIMBERLY HEFLING, Associated Press Writer 8 minutes ago
Rep. John Murtha (news, bio, voting record), a Vietnam veteran first elected in the anti-war fever of 1974, says American troops will be brought home from Iraq by 2007.
Either President Bush will bow to public opinion or Democrats will have won control of the House of Representatives and increased pressure on the White House, Murtha, D-Pa., said in an Associated Press interview Thursday.
Most likely, there will be a "tidal wave" that propels Democrats into the majority, said Murtha. He predicts Democrats will gain 40-50 seats well more than the 15 needed for the party to gain control.
Murtha, 73, a retired Marine colonel who has generally been hawkish on war issues, shocked Washington in November when he said the war could not be won and it was time for troops to come home. He offered a plan that would keep troops in the region in case of a national security emergency.
Murtha was elected in 1974, when public outrage over the Watergate scandal and President Nixon swept Democrats into office. He compared this election year to that of 1974 and to 1994, when the GOP rolled into power partly because of discontent with President Clinton.
"Republicans are spinning the fact that it's going to be very hard. From my experience in '74 and '94, they can't stop it ... even if they did something dramatic," Murtha said.

Just trying to be helpful. :^)
No way.
EVEN IF he is right and the Rats win 40-50 seats in this cycle, 2008 is a Presidential year which brings greater turnout. After the public sees these guys in action, they could very well lose many of those seats back.
Murtha's damn father should have pulled out.
Murtha can't possibly own a globe. Find Afghanistan. Find Iraq. Find Iran. Find Syria. Any questions?
(yawnnnn) is this thing still around??? I thought he went to sleep somewhere....
While it's certainly true that the large majority of Marines deserve the respect and gratitude of this nation, that's not true of *all* Marines.
Lee Harvey Oswald,for example,was a Marine.
Murtha is just Nancy Pelosi's sock puppet. I believe her staff just sends memos down to his office weekly.
What's his FR screen name?
LOL!
He's got several.
Imagine being related to this turd of a human.....?
Its all about elections. Say whatever you want if it might upset the populace enough to get you some more votes. Only interested in getting elected and not what is right for the USA and the people of Iraq.
After Vietnam he went back as a congressman in 1975 and after that trip was to decide if we would stand by our commitments. What did he do then?
Somebody with access to old Phila. newspapers check out his record and what he did in Feb. - May 1975 before the fall of Saigon.
What set them apart from the likes of Murtha was their disagreements were in private, because they were smart enough to understand the effect of undermining troop moral.
Murtha....has shamed himself and his family.
Yes he absolutely has, especially when he said not only he wouldn't enlist in the current military but no young person should.
I'm not convinced that this guy can tie his own shoelaces, let alone say something meaningful.
