>>Problems in Iraq would not drag his JA below 40. The reason so many on this thread say it the border problems that's dropped his JA so low is because he's alienated his base with his obstinate insistence on a temporary worker program, and THAT'S the reason his JA is running in the low 30s.
Only fools without reasoning skills would blame the President for high gasoline prices. That means only Dimocrats, who already are included in the job disapproval ratings, so that's not a significant factor in his JA dropping well below 40, IMO.<<
I see your point about immigration being key to the drop below 40. And I certainly agree with you about gas prices.

Completely clueless. I am beginning to believe he has no idea how much trouble he is in, or the Republican party.

nobody cares about profligate Federal spending. It's only gas prices and Iraq that have America's panties in a bunch.None of those bother me! Well spending does somewhat, Illegal immigration and the ROP myth, get me going.

"that war in Iraq and rising gas prices have created "battle fatigue" among many Americans."
2 issues at the bottom of my list.
Try spending like a drunk, campaign finance, no child left behind, medicare drug benefit, patriot act, supporting liberals to defeat conservatives, and the top one, his stand on imigration.
At this point i'm sorry I held my nose and voted for him in 2 general elections.

"To me, it's (a) illegal immigrants and (b) uncontrolled spending, (c) abysmal pubic relations efforts against opponents of the war on Islamic terror."
You nailed it.

Immigration. As the Senate resumes work on immigration reform, Bush repeated his support for a guest worker program. "Hopefully we can get a bill out that reflects the principles that I've espoused, which is a strong border security measure, coupled with interior enforcement, measures that will be effective, coupled with a temporary worker program." One of the prerequisites to citizenship, he said, should be to learn English. If he really meant any of that he would have taken action by now. More than 4,000 new BP agents could be in the field right now but he refused to approve funding for more than 150. Far below the attrition rate. He could direct his AG to enforce the laws on the books rather than the dog-and-pony show Chertoff gave us two weeks ago. He could use EOs and PDDs to secure our borders and, given our war-time footing, the only objections would be the pathetic mulings of the Sheehan/Kennedy wing of the Dem Party.
I absolutely reject the notion that he means a single word of the above. The facts on the ground bely it completely.

Murtha Predicts U.S. Pullout From Iraq
snip
Most likely, there will be a "tidal wave" that propels Democrats into the majority, said Murtha. He predicts Democrats will gain 40-50 seats well more than the 15 needed for the party to gain control.

This will make you feel all better.

Not sure I heard about this illegal immigration debate during the 2004 election cycle? You must have missed this thread in Jan. '04. Making illegal residents legal It's been a hot topic since 9/11. For those with ears to hear.
