While Minuteman civilian patrols are keeping an eye out for illegal border crossers, the U.S. Border Patrol is keeping an eye out for Minutemen -- and telling the Mexican government where they are. According to three documents on the Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Web site, the U.S. Border Patrol is to notify the Mexican government as to the location of Minutemen and other civilian border patrol groups when they participate in apprehending illegal immigrants -- and if and when violence is used against border crossers.
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed the notification process, describing it as a standard procedure meant to reassure the Mexican government that migrants' rights are being observed.
"It's not a secret where the Minuteman volunteers are going to be," Mario Martinez said Monday.
"This ... simply makes two basic statements -- that we will not allow any lawlessness of any type, and that if an alien is encountered by a Minuteman or arrested by the Minuteman, then we will allow that government to interview the person."
Minuteman members were not so sanguine about the arrangement, however, saying that reporting their location to Mexican officials nullifies their effectiveness along the border and could endanger their lives.
"Now we know why it seemed like Mexican officials knew where we were all the time," said Chris Simcox, founder of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. "It's unbelievable that our own government agency is sending intelligence to another country. They are sending intelligence to a nation where corruption runs rampant, and that could be getting into the hands of criminal cartels.
"They just basically endangered the lives of American people."

How funny is that? If USA Today/Gallup were to poll me today, I too would give President Bush a negative rating.
The silence will be deafening, this is indefensible.
The mods are being very strict on this story.
The Border Patrol would not like citizens disclosing their whereabouts or investigations.
Another example of illegals having more rights than American citizens.
If I go third party, I think it's going to be Constitution party. The Libertarians stance on abortion and moral values are pretty weak at best.
So, ultimately we're at the point where the choices are "Really, really bad" and "Absolutely ghastly".
Hobb's (Hobson's?) Choice.
The stench can't be masked anymore. There is a lot of outrage at the President and GOP right now by conservatives that they very well have earned. Congress needs to cut it's ties from Bush and correct the course of this nation ASAP back to the ideas that got them there in 94. If they don't they'll be playing minority for years to come.
You have no rights, you are nothing more then an insignificant source of revenue.
The pubbies are gonna take a BIG hit in November. They could loose the House and the Senate at this rate.
"We have to give their counsel the information about their apprehension, and that includes where they are apprehended, whether a Minuteman volunteer spotted them or a citizen."Uh...I believe that is the same. The Minutemen are citizen volunteers.
Many times, we were told not to go out to Minuteman calls.Well, there you have it. Can't have the citizens helping in this endeavor. This is sickening.

Like I said, it is sickening and clear that elements of our own government do not want this problem resolved or assisted by American citizens who are patriotic and trying to help. Begins to make one wonder just exactly what it is that they are afraid of.
"They just basically endangered the lives of American people."
I agree with you on all that. It just seems like he's been off the rails lately. He's always been for open borders, but on almost every issue that's come up lately, the administration (as well as most congressional Republicans) seems to be out of touch.
On the border issue, I think they think it will just go away. They don't think it has "traction." But, I think they're wrong on that one, and they're taking a big gamble. One they may well lose.
Bush administration has got to change NOW !!!!
Is there such a thing as a card carrying skinhead? Even if true (which I doubt) tell us what crimes have been committed by the Minutemen?
The congress has about 4 or 5 months to get something done on the border or the GOP is toast. Just announcing that they are giving the Border Patrol more money isn't going to cut it with the voters this time.
Same here.
