MSNBC says no Tsunami threat to Hawaii. Most will be change in tide movement.
Hope so.
Now saying for New Zealand the Tsunami is not expected to be "terribly" destructive, whatever that means.
The Quarter Moon is on May 5th. This piece of data is counter to the people who theorize that earthquakes are due to a gravitational alignment of Luna and Sol.

Many of the islands in Fiji are pretty small. We stayed on several of them a few years ago. I don't recall a lot of high ground to which one could retreat.
Rush just mentioned this, too. I hope all the people in its path are getting the warning.

FOR ALL OTHER PACIFIC AREAS, THIS MESSAGE IS AN ADVISORY ONLY.
AN EARTHQUAKE HAS OCCURRED WITH THESE PRELIMINARY PARAMETERS
ORIGIN TIME - 1527Z 03 MAY 2006
COORDINATES - 19.9 SOUTH 174.2 WEST
LOCATION - TONGA ISLANDS
MAGNITUDE - 7.8
EVALUATION
IT IS NOT KNOWN THAT A TSUNAMI WAS GENERATED. THIS WARNING IS
BASED ONLY ON THE EARTHQUAKE EVALUATION. AN EARTHQUAKE OF THIS
SIZE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO GENERATE A DESTRUCTIVE TSUNAMI THAT CAN
STRIKE COASTLINES IN THE REGION NEAR THE EPICENTER WITHIN MINUTES
TO HOURS. AUTHORITIES IN THE REGION SHOULD TAKE APPROPRIATE
ACTION IN RESPONSE TO THIS POSSIBILITY. THIS CENTER WILL CONTINUE
TO MONITOR SEA LEVEL GAUGES NEAREST THE REGION AND REPORT IF ANY
TSUNAMI WAVE ACTIVITY IS OBSERVED. THE WARNING WILL NOT EXPAND

It's just past 5 AM NZ time, 3 AM on the Australian east coast.
I just talked to my brother in HI, and he has heard nothing about a tsunami watch. He's pretty good about monitoring weather and news, so I find that kind of strange.
More after I talk to him again.
So people there aren't likely to be listening to the news...
