Sellin of America comapny by company
self | 4/30/06 | Drypowder

I have two family members who work for PG&E and in different grid zones. They've both heard through the PG&E rumor mill that China wants to or is going to purchase the PG&E Company. Any of you Freepers heard of this?

Aside from another American company being sold to a foreign invester/country Yolo County will soon be voting to keep PG&E or to let SMUD take over as the electrical service provider. If this China buy out is true I'm certain the Yolo County voters would want to know about it. Maybe someone from a news org will look into this.

It is not the the business of the voters to get involved in the corporate activities of a company. The only time you have any say so is if you own stock in the company. It is risky to turn business into political campaigns, as its never a good thing when government interfers with business operations.

Sort of like if the Chinese gov't. gets involved in PG&E through, say, a shell company?

I don't see what the issue is. All that PG&E does is produce electricity and provide residential gas service. How would China taking over affect anything?

Willie Green was gone the last time I checked. Shame, I enjoyed arguing with his total wrongness.

You are correct, of course.

A sale only happens if the sellers in the US have (in their eyes) a more profitable venture to buy.

Exceptions for sensitive indutries should be made, of course.

But explain that to the same people who think we should be manufacturing plastic crap here in America and not permit "ferigners" to own port-servicing companies in the US. (Instead, leave that to the patriotic la cosa nostra!)

And in the mean time, the Dow is at a six year high, employment figures are good, etc....

There isn't too many things we can buy in America anymore that doesn't come from China. They furnish our goods, buying up the corporations, and the illegal Mexicans are taking over everything else. It's disgusting beyond words.People better wake up and see what is happening. This isn't the America I grew up in. :o(

PG&E has close ties with the Chinese government, but no news on a sale.

I think they may have a contract for gas supply or something to that extent.

Yes, and Americans freed from making textiles and other low-margin garbage now made in China are manufacturing and providing higher-end, higher margin, items and services, resulting in a greater standard of living in the US.

It's terrible.

Unless one thinks that we should start nationalizing our companies (like the commie socialists do), it's not the government's place to get involved in private corporate decisions.

It isn't terrible if you have a highly valued skill set or unique ability. However, it's pretty done bad if you worked in a factory turning out low margin garbage.

"However, it's pretty done bad if you worked in a factory turning out low margin garbage."

Same complaint buggy whip manufacturers had about them horseless carriage contraptions.

And Kodak and Polaroid workers have against digital cameras.

Sucks to be outdated.

I can't believe all that is happening in this country......right before our EYES and nothing is being done about it. Why are our leaders ignoring this? I feel like screaming at the top of my lungs.."WHAT ABOUT US"??? HEY....WE AMERICANS STILL LIVE HERE!!!! I'm sick to death of watching our jobs go to other countries and the jobs left here are being snatched up by illegals because "they are doing the jobs most Americans won't do". That's a LIE!!! We like to eat and pay our bills just the same as everyone else! Grrr.....
