These trumped up charges against Rush really burns my a$$. I totally understand the chronic back pain he's been having to deal with, it suck's.

I too live in Florida and this state has scared doctors to death over prescribing painkillers which are necessary to get through some days. Personally I try only to take them whenever the pain gets simply too much to bare, but am really never pain free and know there are others in worse shape than myself.

My original Dr. wrote me one last scrip when the state started warning Dr's for over perscribing them. This made me go to a different Dr only to get one scrip only and move on to the next, and so on, and so on.

More times than not when calling to make the appointment and having to describe what the visit would be for I was told right up front that no pain medication would be given.

I've spent as much a $1000 bouncing from Dr to Dr just trying to get one of them to give me the prescription I needed.

I have lived in S. Fla. since 1946. Another irony about all this is that in Dade County(the new capital of the third world) you don't even need a prescription. Most every pharmacy in town gives out whatever they want to whomever they want. Everyone knows it and it's extremely rare that anyone gets busted.

But, let a known conservative try something like that...... and watch out. Terrible double standard.

but that's just South Fla.--the arm pit of the state.

You my FRiend are doctor shopping. I understand the reasoning and rationale behind it but it still doesn't negate the fact it's doctor shopping.

As one who has chronic pain I'd like to propose a better solution. Find a primary care physician you're comfortable with who can handle all of your regular stuff. I don't know if you've done the neurologist/MRI/etc. stuff but if not, you'll probably need to for documentation of what's causing the back pain. Ask your primary care physician to refer you to a pain specialist. The pain specialist will be in charge of prescribing all meds for pain.

It's the better way to go, trust me.

Given the consequences of becoming addicted to pain medications, I think the public would be well served if the meds were not so freely dispensed.

I totally understand too. Been using darvocet for three years for monthly pain, The rest of the month I'd spend having withdrawal headaches from the stuff. FINALLY got my doctor to recommend something surgical to correct it. I am so glad not to be taking them anymore. Narcotics don't agree with me too much, but I can understand how easy it would be to get hooked, they sure do feel nice initially. It's the side effects that make me miserable.
