Christians ask: Can you love thy neighbor but deport him, too?

Does a focus on family values demand a tight border to protect Americans from outsiders, or an open-door policy to ensure opportunity to the poor of other nations? It is more important to welcome the stranger or to respect the rule of law?

At a forum Thursday hosted by the conservative Christian group Family Research Council, conservative and liberal religious leaders lobbed Bible verses, unable to agree on what Jesus would do about the nation's nearly 12 million illegal immigrants.

Immigrant advocates warned that a crackdown would harm families and violate Scripture. And a lawmaker leading the charge for tougher enforcement decried the impulse to direct "compassion" at foreigners while ignoring the plight of low-income Americans.

Jesus Christ never broke any laws...

Is that supposed to be a joke? Jesus Christ was found guilty of a capital crime and given the death penalty.

The only exception to that general rule is in those instances where the state's law demands an act which is prohibited by God's laws and ordnances, or a law which prohibits an act which God has commanded his believers to perform.

If providing a hot meal to an illegal alien becomes a felony, will you obey Caesar's law or God's law?

Matthew 25

"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,

I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.'

"They also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?'

"He will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.' "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life."

I believe Y'shua is addressing this to all the Anti-Semites.

Don't take it out of context!

Matthew 25:40 "The King will answer and say to them,
`Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it
to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.'

You're the one taking the verse out of context.

Jesus himself explain who is his brother:

Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother.

Mark 3

The Christian model for immigrantion:

Ruth 1:16 And Ruth said, Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

The leftist/communist model for immigration:

The Christian model for immigration is one of laws, a sealed border, and legal immigration of people with an attitude like Ruth's. If you don't support a fence and deportation, you support something other than a Christian model of immigration for this nation.

The Tom Tancredo fans here should take a look at the churches that they attend this Sunday. I think they might shocked at how many Hispanics are sitting in their pews.

Oh, so now church attendance is limited to non-Hispanics? Or are you suggesting that Hispanic=illegal?

Being from California, my church directory is replete with names like Flores, Espinoza, Hermosillo, Ramirez, and Rivera. I know them all. None are illegals; most are multiple-generation Americans. I would gladly sit on any pew with them rather than the likes of anyone making such an ignorant statement.

Do you celebrate G-d's mandated feast of Passover?

or do you celebrate the Pagan feast of Easter?

Do you keep holy the L-rd's day of Shabbat?

or do you worship the Evil one on the Sun's day ?

I thought I answered that question in the sentence you quoted in your comment.

Go after the employers. If illegals are unable to work, they will self-deport. Before the welfare state emerged, this happened each time the U.S. went into an economic plunge.

Exactly.

The unwillingness of Americans, or at least their representatives (even in the House), to accept the measures necessary to meaningfully penalize employers suggest to me that they are not willing to sacrifice all that much, in terms of liberty and inconvenience, to curb illegal immigration.
