Prolly not. There wasn't much room for armored warfare in Korea, either. It was an infantry war.

Re: Patton's tactical genius:

Then how do you explain the near-disaster of the failed attempts to take the Brittany ports by Pattons forces?

Bradley has been blamed time and agin for the lack of progress on this front, but Patton was the Army commander and he didn't seem to show his usuall dash and drive over these objectives.

How would you explain the near-debacles at Metz and Verdun?

The truth is that Patton had eyes for only one prize: the Rhine. All of his "genius" was resevred for that objective alone to the detriment of his overall mission. Thousands of Allied soldiers died because of his fixation. the Allied supply situatio post-Normandy was exacerbated by patton's inability to take the Brittany ports, and was all the ammunition Montgomery needed to push his plan to take Antwerp (similarly unsuccessful, initially).

Patton fixated on the Rhine because that's where the glory was. As a strategic thinker, he was guided by his ego, not the realities of the battlefield.

You're brighter than previously thought.

I hope that's a compliment. :-)

"You dispute the contention that the German army was the best in the world?"

Of course - Patton crushed their nuts! From my previous post:

"Because Patton had split the Third Army in two and encircled the Hunsruck Mountains, the Americans captured ten entire German divisions there. This was Patton’s masterpiece; it shows the true genius of his strategy. "

What problems in Brittany? Patton was ordered to divert westward toward retreating German forces.

You seem oblivious to the fact that the Third Army came into existence only in early August and by the end of the month, it was denied gasoline as it sputtered to a halt in Lorraine - nevermind Metz.

The Third Army had to rethread metric sparkplugs as its supplies were being diverted to aliied forces to the North.

And he was ordered to cross the Rhine (finally) without the heavy support provided to the North.

And he was dazzingly successful.

"However, it always fails because while you can easily imitate the FORMS of Western culture, you cannot always imitate the substance. "

Wrong - we rehabilitated Japan very successfully and very completely in very short time.

You really have no understanding of the process of political modernization. The problems we have in the Middleast have nothing to do with a belief in Mohammed - we could have the same problem if they believed in Festivus.

They are anti-west because of Communist indoctrination in the 50's , 60's, and 70's.

"Lt. General George S. Patton Jr., has never been properly recognized for his contribution to military strategy, although he executed the fastest advance ever in history, far faster than Guderian’s famous blitzkrieg into Poland."

Thanks for the wonderful post!

Patton didn't come close to destroying the German Army. He never had a chance the German Army was destroyed by the Soviets and Zukov because that was who Hitler considered to be the main enemy. The divisions in France didn't have to fight for almost four years in anyway comparable to the destruction the ones in the East faced.

We can be thankful for Patton's genius and assistance in ending the war but the fight was won in the East.

". The problems we have in the Middleast have nothing to do with a belief in Mohammed"

BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAA That is by far the FUNNIEST thing you have ever written. I guess all of that Allahu Akbar screaming just prior to blowing up innocent Israelis, or screamed before cutting the heads off of hostages, or before they RAMMED planes into our buildings was all about Marx and Engels and the communists that "indocrinated them"

Education time AGAIN:
1.) The Arabs in the ME hate us because they believe the imans, etc., who tell them the US is the devil incarnate and is doing the bidding of the "Zionists" Their country's "leaders" (Kings, etc) are willing to look the other way at these thugs because the terrorist mainly target the US and allies and leave the ruling elite virtually alone.
2.) The commies were playing geo-politics with the Arab terrorists - they were able to use them to destablize the region. Indocrination in communism was FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR from their goals because they knew it wouldn't work there (can you name any Communist regimes modeled after the Soviet Union and then tell us how long they lasted?). The Arab terrorists, on the other hand, gladly accepted Soviet $$$$$ to attack their enemies.

Of course we know what this argument of yours is all about - trying to pin the terrorist attacks on the US on the Russians. Your obsession is unnatural and if you really were born in the US quite unusual - unless you're some sort of Ukrainian nationalist plant....

And your anti-Russian obsession show just how little faith your have in your own country. You continuously OVERRATE Russian capabilities and UNDERRATE America's might and judgment. Perhaps you should stick to DU. They'd love you over there (or should I say "they love you over there"?)

One of the reasons I was so P.O.ed at the moronic attitude towards the Port Deal was precisely because it was involving people who are trying to be Moslem and to turn to the Western way of doing things. Kicking that branch of modernity in the ME is exactly the wrong thing to do. It has enough enemies among the Happy Killers.

Most of the so-called advancements due to the Islamic culture came from the advanced elements of civilization which the Arabs were in the process of destroying. The Caliphate was the result of a war against the Christian and Zoroastrian cultures by the plundering hordes from the desert looting and killing in the name of Mohammad.

Like criminal gangs with religion as the totalitarian principle of control Islam says "Submit to Conversion, pay Protection or Die" there are no alternatives. And the West appears ready to submit with only a few exceptions most important of which is the GOP and our President.

Patton wasn't "Denied" gas, as you put it. The problem was his troops advanced so far and so fast the supply lines could not keep up with them. Of course, by saying "denied" you try to put Patton in the "victim" category and diminish the significance of his achievement.

He is a bit of a disrupter - usually tries to steer any thread he's on into an ethnic-hatred based non-sensical diatribe. But he does provide me with plenty of entertainment!

Spamalot that is an absurdity on top of nonsense with ridiculousness on top. Islam is all that is behind the suicide killers. Islam's Infinite Brothel is the goal not the Dickatorship of the Proletariat.

It was that way from the first wave of killers who rode out ot the desert under the black banner of this Anti-Christ looting and murdering the Christian and Jewish people of the area. Peoples whose scripture the lustfilled demon Mohammed twisted and perverted into a support for his campaign of Terror.

Al Queda is only a recent reincarnation of other bands of suicide killers such as the Assassins for whom Paradise dispensed by the Old Man of the Mountains was the goal. Osama may be in Altamount even as we speak should he live.

The Arab regimes were much closer to the Nazis in any case many of whom took up shop in the ME after Adolph crapped put. They regularly rounded up and killed their domestic communist parties while taking MOscow's millions.

Marxism has less to do with al Queda's motivation than does Western art.

"We can be thankful for Patton's genius and assistance in ending the war but the fight was won in the East."

Oh really - that's not what some of our leading Generals think:

"Written by Brigadier General Albin F. Irzyk (Ret.), who fought in World War II in Europe as a Tank Battalion Commander in the 4th Armored Division, "Gasoline To Patton: A Different War" is a hard-hitting criticism of a military decision made by General Eisenhower in late 1944. As both a historian and a participant, Irzyk voices his belief that if Eisenhower had chosen differently, the war in Europe would have been over before the end of 1944, with no "Market Garden", no "Battle of the Bulge", and the Russian advance stopped outside of East Germany"

You can tell these guys are not the typical freepers. As soon as you start quoting historians, they start with the personal attacks - but they are good as they maintain a front of being defferential to Patton who was a genius, the most feared by the Germans, and the most feared by the Russians (and perhaps that is how he was killed.)

"The Arab regimes were much closer to the Nazis "

Actually, it was the Russians that were Hitlers partner at the start of WWII - have you forgotten the invasion of Poland by RUSSIA?
