Debt does not equal debt.

You actually said that. You actually believe that America can just keep borrowing forever from China and the Arabs.

Really.

What nonsense you talk !

Try to combine.
1. A major war.
2. A full employment economy.
3. A massive increase of government programs (like Medicare and the War on Poverty)

And what do you get ?

INFLATION.

LBJ's economic advisers flatly warned him that if he did not raise taxes there would be inflation. He refused because he feared it would undermine support for the Vietnam War. The oil price shocks simply made a bad situation worse.

inflation is caused by one thing and one thing only

MONEY SUPPLY

you truly are a keynesian. Full employment doesnt cause inflation. We had full employment in the late 1990s with disinflation.

Ahhh..LBJ did raise taxes and hot got even more inflation. Raising taxes increases inflation, lowering taxes reduces inflation.

I'm tired of the excuses. I'm tired of the lame "Stay home, and you'll elect a Democrat" acre tactics. I just can't drink the Kool-Aid anymore.

Item number 3 is the scariest part.

Actually, any increase in government ought to be viewed with suspicion by Americans but since FDR they think it will save them.

If the 1970 economy had been deflated like the American economy of 1940 there would have been no inflation.

But piling Medicare on top of Vietnam on top of a full employment economy sent demand inflation surging throughout the economy. The problem with limited war is that major war comes with demand dampening measures to prevent inflation (buy war bonds, rationing, etc). LBJ couldn't politically afford to do any of those things.

Tell me, does the money supply magically increase itself ? Or does it increase because the government is taking on massive new responsibilities and is financing it with the printing press ?

so what will you think when all the policies of 1993-94 come back to bite you?

has anyone from teh GOP tried to:

take away your guns
outlaw home schooling (Geroge Miller has intorduced a bill to do jus this)
Force you into a single payer health care system.

Fact of the matter is conservatives who stay home on election day are unpatiotic, unamerican and frankly dont take terrorism seriously. They are unserious people who dont deserve to be acknowledged by any political party.

""If the 1970 economy had been deflated like the American economy of 1940 there would have been no inflation.""

that is the most nonsensical statement ive ever heard.

"'Tell me, does the money supply magically increase itself ? Or does it increase because the government is taking on massive new responsibilities and is financing it with the printing press?""

youre very confused between fiscal and monetary policy. I wont give you a history lesson on the 1970s cuz you wouldnt understand it and I am sure youve never heard of Arthur F Burns.

But I will tell you today we are having increasing inflation because back in 2001-03 Greenspan was fighting deflation or preceived deflation by jacking up the MS. We do not have increasing inflation due to budget deficits.

In 1980 inflation was about 15% and the budget deficit was 2% of GDP.

In 1983 inflation was 3% and the budget deficit was 6% of GDP

do you understand the significance of this? It is your argument has just been shot out of hte water

The war is getting on people's nerves

The media's war of attrition against US policy is finally taking a toll, apparently.

I am not even speaking of guest worker...I just want my president to do the job he is supposed to do and seal the border...and ENFORCE the EXISTING law. Period.

The whole "deport them all" thing is stupid...and I will admit that...it would be political suicide. However, instead of not doing anything UNTIL we do everything...we could...and should seal the border and enforce THAT law. Then we can sort out what to do with those who are here.

The GOP won't even do that...and that is what has be upset. It's about security...defense...and down right common sense. It's about the fact our smaller hospitals are being put out of business in these border states because of this issue...our schools are failing because of this issue.

...And they won't even close the border and figure the rest out later. That's vote pandering. That's NOT doing what is right for this country and you and everyone else knows it. I thought he was above that. If it was what is about doing what is right for the country...there would be a fence down there right now.

Scott's poll is also of adults, but more evenly divided between Repubs and dems, with a reasonable number of Independents.
