The officer flunked a polygraph exam before being fired on Thursday and is now under investigation by the Justice Department, NBC has learned.
Intelligence sources tell NBC News the accused officer, Mary McCarthy, worked in the CIA's inspector general's office and had worked for the National Security Council under the Clinton and and George W. Bush administrations.
The leak pertained to stories on the CIAs rumored secret prisons in Eastern Europe, sources told NBC. The information was allegedly provided to Dana Priest of the Washington Post, who wrote about CIA prisons in November and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize on Monday for her reporting.
Sources said the CIA believes McCarthy had more than a dozen unauthorized contacts with Priest. Information about subjects other than the prisons may have been leaked as well.

Wonder if Porter Goss is checking and re-checking ALL democrats in the CIA.. The FBI should take heed too.. not to speak of the Secret Service..
They went after Sandy Berger. They'll be looking at her.
Of course. They don't say she lied, they said she failed a polygraph. That's accurate as far as it goes. But after they had an admission that she was the leaker, there no was no longer any doubt that she was a liar too.
Thus, she's a two-time loser: a leaker and a liar.
What more does one need to become a hero to the left?
Bush was wrong not to clean house. He didn't do it because, IMHO his squeaker victories, in his opinion, denied him the mandate. As a result he has been back-stabbed by one Clinton hold-over after another.
He won by narrow margins because of vote fraud in at least five states, at least some of which, had the vote been properly handled, would have been in the Bush electoral column. But no GOP-man has the stomach to face vote fraud. Those Republicans in most fear of losing their jobs are coming around on illegal immigration, but it's too little, too late.
Despite two Bush terms and a Republican House and Senate, it is still nigh-on impossible for a Republican to get a job on the level of the Clintonista god-cursed rat fink, Mary McCarthy, outed in your excellent post.
Win lose or draw, the Democrats have a lock on Washington thats going to take more than W's brand of laid-back leadership and total lack of "communicational sensitivity" to break.
Gramps, I personally guarantee you I will still crawl over broken glass to get to the polls to vote for whomsoever the Republican Party comes up with, whether I personally like the SOB or not. However, I am living in great fear that Bush's Legacy is going to be $5 gas, 50 Million Mexicans, a Democrat Congress, and Hillary (and Bill) Clinton.
Actually the Bush Adminstration inherited these 5th column rats in the Pentagon, State, AG's office, CIA, FBI and probably every other department in DC.
This is why I would like to see whenever a President is elected all government employees over say a GS7 have to submit a letter of resignation which is valid as long as the president serves. Then he could use it to get rid of the trash when he is sworn in or later when it is needed.
Sorry, but I find that less than reassuring.........$50,000 fine and he gets his security clearance back in time for the 2008 elections.......big deal.
They defend her at their peril.
Goody.
I actually missed that thread until a relative lurker emailed me and asked me what I thought about.
As I noted, it was a dynamite thread, but how many of us saw it and found out about rat McCarthy?
Unfortunately, the CIA has no jurisdiction as to sentencing.
Ali never fails to amaze me with research:)
Ping for documetation(s)
As stated by Miss Marple on another thread, it is illegal for the President to fire civil servants without just cause, unlike political appointees who CAN be let go when a new administration comes in. Just before leaving office, Clinton gave several of his political appointees civil service jobs for this very reason.
Please read and maybe index the incredible info about this Rat Traitor from Ali Veritas.

She is/was a very loyal Rat operative and funder of the rats. Only God knows how much damage she has done to America in the past and maybe in bs like the Wilson/Plame mess.
Puts a new spin on the, "I'm a Unite'er not a Divide'er" sound bite don't it..
i.e. Uniteing with whom for what?..
Anyone have a link to Knight Ridder fabricating quotes and attributing them to Bush?
GW's problem is that he doesn't like to hurt his enemies in America. He is a little too Christian in that part of his life. He needs to be tough old testament when dealing with these scumbags.
=8-0
Anyone got a list?
You are right, but we can whine all we want about these types of people who screw this country. But, until they are strung up ....... or something of the sort, this Republic is DEAD!
Saying she worked for both the Clinton and Bush administrations is a half truth. She worked in the White house through much of the Clinton Adm then was sent back to CIA 4 months into Bush Adm.
For years I have said that our all volunteer military shouldn't have rats because they often end up harming our military and country while in the service and afterwards like John Kerry.
Lie detector tests should be given to most of these bastards starting with a basic loyalty oath to America and protecting it from our enemies form within and out.
Thank you very much.
