If Tony cannot work closely with White House Communications to craft saud message, then I agree he should not take the job.

Of course, you are correct in your comments.

However, you describe problems with the current press office. That's a reason to hire Snow, not a reason to take the job.

That sacrifice stuff is nice but Snow has young children who he won't see for the next 34 months and he would have to take a big pay cut (mortgage, other life bills and tuitions will persist).

I stand by my original statement, I can't think of a single reason for TONY SNOW to take that job.

I wonder about his recent bout in the health area.

That's probably a significant contributor to his reluctance - whether said reluctance is primarily from Tony or Mrs. Snow, I can only guess...

I heard some ignorant mouth (from one of the D.C. inside-politics-type papers or newsletters) saying on John Bachelor last night that (1) Snow couldn't handle the heavy lifting, and (2) FOX would go nuts because they are trying to posture themselves as a "credible" and impartial news organization.

Both of these comments made me go completely nuts.

Snow is VERY smart, educated, verbal, quick, nimble, unflappable, credible, good-humored AND conservative. And with media, he is experienced, savy, and connected. He is a perfect choice.

But somehow, this dumb talking head on Bachelor thinks it would taint FOX to use someone who goes through the swinging door between the administration and the media. Has he heard of Salinger, Moyers, Powell, Stephanopolous, to name a few??? PLEASE!!! (If FOX is worried about their credibility why don't they send BO back to the tabloids and fire Sheppard Smith for being all-attitude and no-substance. And that is just for starters.)

(I am not so keen on this appointment only because I hate to have such a valuble conservative voice saddled with the 24x7 defense of the administration.)

"I can think of worse."

Sounds like the way the Bush administration approaches most of its personnel decisions. If Snow's radio show is unlistenable, he's the wrong man for the job. It's good if a press secretary is likeable, but if he cannot connect well with an audience, he's not up to it. Being "kind of soft" is a deal-breaker for me. That was my impression of Snow, and while the White House seems to want this type, it's not what they need. They're making a mistake if they hire Tony. Probably a big mistake. They're thinking that they can get a two-fer -- a "soft," nice-looking young guy to appeal to the elusive soccer moms they've always been obsessed with, and a known conservative to appeal to the base. But unfortunately, "soft" will tend to cancel "conservative." As usual, we get the short stick.
A similar mistake was made when the White House told the Senate GOP to make Bill Frist majority leader, and look where that got us.
