:::FreeRepublic's Threat Matrix:::
Afghanistan Calls for Crackdown at Border
(Full Story)

Pakistan needs to do more to crack down on terrorism along the Pakistani-Afghan border, a spokesman for Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Tuesday.

Rahim Karimi said in the news conference that Afghanistan need greater "cooperation" from both its eastern neighbor and the international community in its battle against Islamic militants.

Coalition and Afghan forces have in recent days been fighting fierce battles against Taliban fighters near the Afghan-Pakistan border.

OPINION: If we had the border security we need all along, they would not have been able to carve these tunnels under the border. I hope payoffs at some level were not involved. *cough, cough*

Palestinian Blames U.S. for Lack of Money (5/3/06)

By IBRAHIM BARZAK Associated Press Writer

GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) -- Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas said Wednesday that U.S. pressure foiled the latest attempt to pay 165,000 government workers by transferring money from abroad directly into their accounts.

Haniyeh also appealed to Arab nations to counter the U.S. moves.

Reflecting frustration over empty coffers, Haniyeh told a news conference that the Hamas-led government has raised money, but so far has not found a way to get it into the Palestinian areas.

Public sector salaries are two months late, largely because Israel and the West have frozen the transfer of funds to the Hamas-led government, branding Hamas a terrorist organization. The Palestinians need $116 million a month to pay salaries..

Chaos Feared in Pandemic Flu Plan

By LAURAN NEERGAARD, AP Medical Writer

WASHINGTON - A flu pandemic would cause massive disruptions lasting for months, and cities, states and businesses must make plans now to keep functioning — and not count on a federal rescue, the Bush administration said Wednesday.

"A law enforcement source in Chicago said police see some evidence of soldiers working with gangs here. Police recently stopped a vehicle and found 10 military flak jackets inside. A gang member in the vehicle told investigators his brother was a Marine and sent the jackets home, the source said."

Wondering: Doesn't military intelligence have internal ways of detecting this activity and heading it off?

I'm pretty sure that street drugs have been very loosely regulated all along. When I travelled in Mexico in the '70s, I was continually being offered marijuana, for example, but refused of course.

As for pharmaceuticals, they have been freely obtainable without prescription. I was able to buy diet pills from pharmacies there without Rx.

Did you see this?

From the Washington Post, April 16, 2006

Homeland Security's Runge has a different concern: "One of the scariest thoughts is, if this country has successfully developed a vaccine within six months of an outbreak or our supply of antivirals is greater,

there may be a rush into the United States for those things."

Identity of Internet Haganah Operative Revealed!
[GASP!!]

The jihadi counter-intelligence department at the tajdeed forum has been hard at work trying to uncover the spies in their midst, and their efforts have born fruit.

Dry, withered, tasteless fruit.

Fruit lacking nourishment or any other redeeming value, but fruit all the same.

Not wanting to see the poor dears waste any more time on this fools' errand, we reveal here for the very first time, the true identity of our undercover operative who has been hard at work for the last four years - Coyote Poplar aka Bubba Rabinowitz aka Bubba aka al-Hajan. This is what he looks like

In truth, Coyote Poplar is a misnomer. He's really a willow (Salix exigua), native to the western United States, reaching a height of 10 feet and found growing on sandbars and immediately beside rivers and streams. A pioneering sort, in the absence of regular flooding he gives way to Cottonwood over time.

The problem for us wasn't teaching him to type, it was keeping him focussed on the admittedly innane chit chat of the jihadis when he would much rather be writing poetry celebrating the wind as it passed over his leaves and the sun as it's shadows danced on the waters and the gravel of home...

I don't even have a vague memory of seeing that photo.
It was new to me and I didn't add it to my Shukrijuma

The interesting part was the University angle.

In recent years Soros funded groups have also gained in passing legislation to legalize possession of drugs personal use (10 doses or less) in Russia. The Drug Policy group is actively working to pass similar legislation here in the states.

Plane Bound From Cuba Lands At Key West Airport (5/3/06)

(CBS4 News) KEY WEST Two men have been ordered held for federal officials, and the plane they were flying ordered impounded, after they landed at Key West airport Wednesday afternoon, apparently after flying the small plane from Cuba.

This small aircraft caused a stir at the Key West Airport around noon Wednesday when it landed. Monroe County Sheriff's Office Airport Security Director Jerome Fain said he received a call from U.S. Customs in Riverside, California who said the aircraft was en route to the Key West Airport from Cuba. They asked that the plane be detained when it landed.....

"U.S. Mass Transit on Alert"

May 03, 2006 9:29 AM
Richard Esposito Reports

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "ABC News has learned that the Department of Homeland Security has alerted U.S. mass transit officials to "suspicious videotaping" of European rail systems that point to a continuing terrorist interest in targeting mass transit and "possible surveillance or pre-operational planning."

According to a short unclassified infrastructure security "private sector note" released Tuesday, May 2nd, DHS says a 17 minute hand held videotape by one foreign national detained in November in a major European city included footage of several stations, two routes and the interior of one "subway car." None of the footage was of tourist attractions. Information from a second suspicious videotaping, also in November 2005, was factored into the one page private sector note.

"Two incidents of suspicious videotaping of a European mass transit system in the last 120 days provide indications of continued terrorist interest in mass transit systems as targets, and potentially useful insight into terrorist surveillance techniques," DHS said."
