Meijer/GM join forces to bring E85 fuel to gas stations

Michigan - Meijer and General Motors are joining forces to make ethanol-based fuel available at the discount chain's gas stations. The fuel, known as E85, will be available at about 20 Meijer stores in Michigan. However, NewsCenter 16 does not know at this time, if the store in Benton Township will be one of the selected stores.

Meijer, GM and Governor Jennifer Granholm will announce details of the plan Tuesday.

E85 is a blend of 85-percent ethanol and 15-percent petroleum-based gasoline.

About four million vehicles can use E85.

However, most owners now use regular gasoline because of the scarcity of stations selling E85.

"Apparently, the Brazilians had a clue."

Yeah... right!!! They had to bungle the jungle to do it!!!

To hear the EnvironMentalistas tell it, they've probably killed off so much habitat that supported the plant and animal life that could have cured all disease in mankind and even created stronger, longer lasting orgasms in humans that ever thought possible!!! (In spite of the girl from Ipanemah's visage)

Now don't you feel ashamed in egging those slash and burn Brazilians on to make jungle alchohol just to burn in what Al Gore calls a bigger threat to humanity than nuclear bombs??? (the internal combustion engine)

It does tend to make my head explode.

And that's not healthy.

I grew up in NC.. we were using 15% Ethanol blend down there in the 70s.... I don't see any issues, other than we aren't producing it in large enough numbers to make it cost effective, but start using it in larger numbers, and the cost will decline rapidly.

"Nuclear power without continual tampering by Luddite EnvironMentalists, CONgressional fumbling, etc., is the answer!!!"

Certainly is at least part of it! I favor attacking the problem from many angles at once. The more solutions, the less our economy will be subject to attack (economic or terrorist) on any one supply. So yes to nukes, yes to ethanol, yes to biodiesel, yes to hybrid tech, give anything a shot.

Specifically relating to ethanol: we're already paying people $ to not grow corn, so you'll have a time convincing me we can get any less efficient than that. I've read the study claiming net-loss from ethanol, and I think it's flawed (that'd be a long post).

What my original post on this thread was about is the fact that in any energy thread on FR there are some who jump in immediately with no, can't be done, what about this, what about that, if it doesn't power my Hemi it's no use, and similar comments.

Some have their favorite energy source and disparage all others; others just trash anything. This is, IMO, silly, and helps contribute to the false perception that conservatives are regressive. We know it's the greenie Left that's regressive, since they want to ban nearly everything, but Luddite comments here or in conversations allow the left to paint us as regressive and themselves as progressive.

They had to bungle the jungle to do it!!!

Regretfully so.

However, they will still soon be energy independent and not held hostage by either Chavez or the Middle-eastern nut-jobs.

If we were able to get our heads out of our collective a@@es (meaning congress) we could build plenty of Nuclear (Fusion) power plants which in turn would reduce demand for fossil fuels which would further lead to our own energy Independence.

The key is strategic energy Independence, if we can do it in an environmentally friendly way, thats a bonus.

We get E85 from a Pacific Pride Station in Greenville MI it runs around $1.85 to $1.99 when gas here is at $2.50 . We drive a 2003 Dodge Caravan and get better gas mileage with E85 than with normal gas the Octane is also 105 versus 89 for the cheap stuff at a normal station . MJ

With luck it won't hit you (or anybody you knows).

But if it does: Ah heh-heh-heh-heh-heh-heh (he pooped and coughed blood at the same time - while pointing)...

Ah heh-heh-heh-heh-heh-heh...

Oil has a gigantic external cost, from pollution to national security

Absolutely. If oil companies & consumers had to internalize all of the pollution and national security costs of protecting petroleum-producing nations, I'm pretty sure that gasoline would be higher than it is now.
