"Please explain how Wal-Mart is different from ANY OTHER MAJOR CHAIN RETAILER. They ALL sell "cheap Red Chinese" stuff."
And THAT is the problem, isn't it?
"If a product isn't selling well in a particular store, it makes sense to remove the product from the shelves regardless of what the product is"
It doesn't make sense if it was something that attacks politically, the base of all your customers.
In that case ( which is what this is) you cut back inventory, but don't bow to groups that hate you and most of your customers.
As I said - I guess I'm missing something here. I just didn't see this in the same light as you and some others because they are not pulling the firearms department in all stores.
But again - if the WM haters like it - I don't.
I wasn't bashing you, you are are a very reasoned person that tends to be on the correct side of issues.
I just tend to see more than meets the eye on issues, because I eat, sleep, and breath issues and politics.
I don't know about Florida, but they have swimsuits on the racks in North Dakota by April (last frost 1st to 2nd week of June).
The upside is that kids' winter coats and snowsuits are on sale while there is a month or two left...
So, why rag on Wal-Mart exclusively???
I knew you weren't bashing me, and I took no offense, and I definitely appreciate the compliment, thank you.
For so many years I did the eat, sleep, breathe politics and issues and became very cynical - I have tried to back off a bit from it of late - it helps maintain my sanity :)
OTOH lately I've been doing the est/sleep/breathe routine on garden/business/cooking plans and seem to be losing the sanity once again!!!! But no one beats the price of WalMart for jelly making supplies, except jars because those are only a seasonal product there - but the department manager directed me to a local store that even beats WM prices and carries the jars year round!!!! So much for WM putting mom & pops out of business.
And with that said - time to go make another batch :)
Because it is currently PC to do so - why else?
This guy and his "Policy Center" are @#$@@#$!$#@#@ idiots!
I've only bought one gun from Wal-Mart because they mostly sell boring, middle of the road, Politically Correct crap firearms. Marlin .22's with tube magazines (firing pin wears out after about three bricks of shells), occasionally a semi-auto rifle in .308, generic bolt action hunting guns from Browning or Winchester, or cheap pump shotguns like the one I bought.
No handguns, no AR-15's or Mini-14's, no SKS's, nothing that would damage their reputation or get them sued, and nothing that would ever interest me. I'm sure that this is the real reason that they're not selling many guns.
Oh my - you don't know how totally JEALOUS I am of you.
If he has a website and a mail order catalog, I probably have it - and most likely ordered from him :)
Now I've got to go make that next batch of jelly - and then go rake and hoe out the strawberry patch my husband just tilled up for me to put in my strawberry plants!!!!!
Yup, see my post#48 earlier in the thread and this hyperlink for the upcoming New Jersey Cabela's details.
I'm curious of the effect this will have on older gunshops like Effinger's Sporting Goods, Lawman Supply, Ray's Sporting Goods, The Bullet Hole, and places like that around the state? The professionalism and knowledge of those salespeople will need to be absolutely top-notch in order to address the vast choices offered by Cabela's coming into the region.

I don't think you understand the situation... The areas that WalMart is quitting gun sales in are also, very often, also devoid of gun shops as well.... for the same exact reasons that Wal-Mart is quitting.... gun sales regulations to death, pressure from liberals, etc. Although I'm no fan of Wal-Mart, I'm also not "boycotting" them either. But I do get aggravated when a business in the position Wal-Mart is in folding to anti-gun pressure (or any other anti-freedom cause). Does Wal-Mart sell "low end guns". Depends on your definitition - they sell Remington, Ruger, Weatherby (Vanguard - actually a Howa), Marlin, Charles Daly, Rossi, and occaisionally a few others. Wal-Mart does tend to sell the lower-end of these brands - Remington Model 70 ADL (or the new equivalent) and 710, Savage 110 Combo, etc. If Wal-Mart was going to abandon the 2nd Amendment, at least in some areas, then I wish they would be honest about it, and not lie about it (low sales). Where I live, it is a minimum of 35 miles to the nearest gun shop (other than Wal-Mart). Some areas it is much farther, and I live in a relatively gun-friendly state. People in far less gun-friendly states might be lucky to have a gun shop within 100 miles.... But they have a local Wal-Mart.
You're not kidding...the firearms I've ever seen offered for sale at a Wal-Mart are real snoozers. Boring, boring, boring and as plain-vanilla as can be found.
My firearm purchases tend to be a pretty "big deal" event for me and are typically expensive top-of-the-line models. I typically purchase a new firearm to add to my collection every five years or so. This is why the traditional gunshop gets this portion of my consumer dollar.

Not that long ago they did sell Ruger Mini-14s. AFAIK, they never sold ARs. They also sold handguns, and later they sold them by catalog special order only. Don't know if that is still the policy or if they don't sell them at all.
The fabric area in the closest Wal-Mart to me (the one staffed by 'Little Old Norwegian Grandmas and their Grandsons') has a great fabric & crafts area because they have a captive audience, but when they re-vamped one of the the larger Madison stores, that area was reduced because you can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting a fabric & craft-type store. (Relax, Viking Kitties! It's just an expression, LOL!)
Marketing and getting the most profit out of every square inch of floorspace is the reason. We did it that way when I worked for Value Village as a teenager in the 70's...you know, the merchandising idea that was later swiped by Wal-Mart? ;)
Oh you are so lucky!!!!! There are no fabric or craft stores around here at all - plenty of places that sell the things made with the stuff - but no where to buy the stuff to make it. ~~~~SIGH~~~~~
The nearest Michaels or AC Moore is 45-50 miles - heck the same goes for Lowe's or Home Depot, although they are building a new Lowe's across from WM- so that's good news for some things - like plumbing stuff, which are very difficult to find around here.
I love living in the middle of no where - but osmetimes it does have its drawbacks - especially right now with the price of gas.
